SoCo is a 501(c)(3), all volunteer/foster organization devoted to second chances. Our only goal is to find good homes for all the dogs that come our way.
Due to a recent fire, SoCo will be unable to accept any dogs into the rescue. We are in the process of rebuilding and hope to be reopened soon. Donations to help us in our rebuilding are greatly appreciated.
While most of the dogs listed here are part of the SoCo family and need homes, we also list pets in need as a courtesy to others. A "courtesy listing" means that these animals are not located at or available through Southern Comfort, rather through other rescues, shelters and/or pet owners.
While we attempt to verify that all information is true and correct, we are not responsible for the validity of any descriptions and or information. Viewers should report any misinformation to the SoCo team.
If interested in a particular animal, please contact the person listed with the profile. If the animal posted is available through SoCo, the information will direct you to SoCo.

SoCo Rescue manages a number of programs that provide help to pet(s) living in economically distressed situations. These programs provide pet food and vet care to pet owners that would not be able to afford such and at no cost to the owners. Helping those in need will greatly reduce the number of animals that are dropped off at kill shelters or dumped off along the side of a lonely road. Your donation to these programs will help us help others:
***The "Help A Neighbor" program allows pet owners to receive vet care, vaccines and, most importantly, spaying and neutering for their pets. Requiring animals in this program to become spayed or neutered helps reduce the number of unwanted litters that seem so predominate in this area.
***The "Empty Bowl Fund" provides pet food to those homes that are having difficulties in even providing food for their family. A proper, nutritional diet will help reduce many problems that some pets experience and put a big smile on the face of these animals.

LOOKING FOR OTHER WAYS TO HELP?
In rural Georgia, too many animals are considered disposable.
Ever week there are animals literally dropped into county dumpsters or abandoned down a lonely road. Some are thin and sick, some are old and some are young. Some are healthy but simply unwanted. With no animal control or humane society in our county, many of these animals find their way here. We rehabilitate them physically, socially or emotionally - whatever it takes to help them find a new loving home.
But that takes funding and materials. SoCo Rescue operates out-of-pocket or through donations alone, we do not profit from adoptions and no one is on a "payroll". We in the process of building a new larger facility that will allow us to house the animals we encounter. We are in need of the follow:
Bleach and cleaning supplies
Food and housing
Crates, bedding, bathing, grooming & healthcare supplies)
Fencing (chain link, wood, posts, gates)
Cinder blocks
Cement (slabs or pourable concrete)
Lumber, roofing, building materials)
Got a transport van? Donate it!
When making a donation towards a specific program or need, please specify where you'd like your donation to be used. This ensures that those needs are properly funded.
So please look at "Our Adoptable Pet List" in the links above and read below about our current efforts! There are still many animals deserving another chance. SCAR, Inc. remains true to our mission: Shelter the homeless, abused and neglected animals, provide care and rehabilitation, and guide them toward new homes and new lives.
Please email us (addresses appear on individual pet pages in Our Adoptable Pet List) or call to find out how you can help!
New arrivals and new pet profiles are updated as quickly as possible. We do have some that may be pre-adopted while we complete their preliminary care.
ALL PETS ARE REQUIRED TO BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED!
Prevent unwanted litters * Healthier and Happier pets * Keep your new pet legal!
How to Help
Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), all volunteer, foster organization. If you are interested in helping our rescues, please ask us for a list of veterinarians who help us care for our rescues. You can send your support directly to these veterinarians, and know that you are directly helping these wonderful animals.
Why we use Foster Homes instead of a Shelter
SCAR does not operate as a typical kennel or shelter. Instead our rescues live in foster homes. Our Foster Friends care for these animals they were their own, providing proper vet care, exercise, training and interaction with people and other animals. This enables SCARS to know each animal’s personality, temperament, character and habits. With a clear understanding of YOUR lifestyle and preferences, we can work together to better insure that everyone is compatible – your family, current pets and your newly adopted pet!
"If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men." ~ St. Francis of Assisi
SCAR is dedicated to animals who have no other options: orphans, strays down on their luck, neglect and abuse cases, those undergoing heartworm treatment or other physical ailments and injuries. Many simply need a place to stay while they heal, rehabilitate and wait for that perfect forever home!

Need help finding a new home for your pet or a stray you've taken in?
We understand that sometimes family pets must be ‘rehomed’ for a variety of reasons. For that reason, we may be able to post your pet as a 'Courtesy Listing’ – sort of a classified web-page for your pet!
To qualify for a 'Courtesy Listing', your pet must be current on all veterinary care and will likely remain in your home until a new home can be found. Potential Adopters will be asked to contact you directly – but we’ll help provide screening tools to help you make a comfortable decision for your pet’s new future family!
We actively network with many rescue groups and independent rescuers, so if there is a particular pet you hope to find, we may be able to help find that perfect pet through another animal welfare group!
