If you and your family are considering adopting a friend please take your time and find a compatible companion animal.

Please read Our Adoption Process
Please take a few moments to read the following explanation of SFA’s adoption process, policies, and procedures.

You may find that adopting a pet is a more involved process than you and your family might have expected. It is definitely not our intention to make adopting a pet a frustrating experience for you. The process is the same for everyone. We feel we must represent the best interest of the animals. They depend on us to give them the best possible chance for a Loving, Responsible, and Permanent home.

If you are in a hurry we suggest you visit when you have enough time to go through the following steps. (About forty minutes to an hour or more)

You will be asked to complete an Adoption Consideration Form if you see a pet that you are interested in adopting. (You can do this prior to visiting by emailing us and requesting the form) We will ask that the form be completed prior to hands on visitation with the pet. An Adoption Counselor will go over your completed form and answer questions you may have regarding the pet of interest as well as informing you of the pets’ history, temperament and specific needs such as exercise requirements, pending medical needs (if any), outdoor cats verses indoor cats etc. (This to can take place via email) We reserve the right to refuse an adoption.

All pets are adopted under an SFA adoption contract. You will be asked for Photo Identification. An adoption fee must be paid to help balance the cost of spay/neuter, vaccinations, parasite testing/treatment, grooming, housing and more. (We do have housing costs, however, we are 100% VOLUNTEER STAFFED.)

We want you to understand how hard it is for SFA to have a pet returned to the shelter because the pet doesn’t work out in the adoptive home. For the pet it is devastating to come back to the shelter to be homeless and unwanted -- again!

When we, together, take the extra time and do our best to make this choice the right one for your family, then we have made an even better choice for the pet… We cannot always be 100%… but together we can try!

Feel free to share your feelings about our adoption process and procedures....

Our Pet List

EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH:

DID YOU KNOW?
An estimated 80% of the animals euthanized in the United States are primarily black- Many of which are labeled "UNADOPTABLE" simply because of color... If you are about to adopt a new family member please consider a black dog or cat or bunny when you visit your local shelter!

We at Solutions for Animals, Inc. save as many as we can because we know we can give them the time needed for the right family to find them and get to know them. Enough time for the family to realize that the more colorful dog in the next room is not a good match for their family and lifestyle. Enough time to realize that the typical "Lab Mix" or "Shepherd Mix" that is mostly black and not of a "fancy breed" is in fact the perfect dog for them...

The precious black cats... They're the best! No one ever takes a second look - never asks a question about their personality - never even reaches out to pet them!

The black bunnies are also passed by as though they do not exist!

Choosing a companion animal should never be based on looks... No matter their color on the outside, they all have hearts of rainbow colors! Eyes of golden dreams! And the want to live and blossom with a family all their own!

A wilted red rose, given a little water will stand high in its vase! A many times by-passed black dog, given a kiss on the nose, will stand proud at its humans side!

Make a shelter staff persons day - show some interest in a black companion animal! It just may be the compatible pet for you!

STORY OF HOPE:
"Aged Rescues"

The Hope is that families will learn that age should not always be the first concern when adopting a companion. Many aged animals are in shelters - many of which are in shelters that euthanize - SFA is committed to saving "aged animals from euthanisai lists" in an effort to give them the chance to be loved and respected for the rest of their lives. SFA provides the extra medical care they may need to begin their new life with their adoptive family, such as dentals etc. Many of these animals are terrific with children, great for full time working homes, and have no surprising behaviors as they mature. We at SFA teach Old Dogs New Tricks Daily and no animal is adopted until we get to know their wants and needs, habits and personalities! Lets Hope that families adopt compatible companions regardless of age!

Your assistance and generosity allows SFA to continue its mission of rescuing and rehabilitating the homeless, neglected and abused companion animals in our area and elevating the status of animals in society through public education.

Who We Are

No matter the path that brought them here, the animals have found safety, commitment, love and respect at Solutions for Animals. Some have never experienced these simple acts of kindness and responsibility. Others have, but an unfortunate owner illness or death has left them grieving. We must see them thought their time of need. From here they will be placed into compatible, loving and responsible homes.

Adopting a friend

We are not age discriminate, nor is color or size an issue. However, indoor housing, cleanliness, training, health care, social activities and so much more must be provided daily. We can only take in as many animals as we can properly care for. Saving a life and allowing that life to be neglected of any of the above, is a policy within SFA that will not be compromised. All adoptions are contingent on a completed consideration form and adoption fee's vary based solely on expenses incurred for medical care and rehabilitation of each individual animal. Every animal is spayed/neutered before they leave SFA. If you think you could foster a homeless pet for a short while, please call our hotline for more information 910-875-7244.
