Small Angels Rescue is an independent, nonprofit, no-kill, all-volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, chinchillas, and degus. A majority of our animals are rescued from animal shelters. We accept animals regardless of age, health, and temperament and believe that every animal deserves a loving home. We do not work with rabbits, ferrets, birds, reptiles, dogs, or cats.
Small Angels Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions to the rescue are tax deductible!
To adopt from Small Angels Rescue, you must first fill out our adoption application. We then interview the applicant by phone or e-mail and review the application to be sure it meets our adoption guidelines. If the application is approved, then at the time of adoption, adopters must sign an adoption contract.
Mice: $5 each
Gerbils, hamsters, rats: $10 each (multiple animal discount: $10 each for the first three animals, then $5 each thereafter)
Degus: $15 each
Guinea pigs, unspayed females: $30 each
Guinea pigs, neutered males: $40 each
Guinea pigs, spayed females: $50 each
Chinchillas: $50 unaltered, $75 spayed/neutered -- each
Please note that guinea pig and chinchilla adoptions are completed by private appointment only, and not at adoption events. Also, not every animal attends every event. Small Angels Rescue is based in Frederick, Maryland. We do not have a shelter.....yet! We use a network of foster homes to care for the animals until they find their forever homes. For our private mailing address, please e-mail info@smallangelsrescue.org.
We're always looking for new ways and places to promote our cause. Perhaps you have a public location where we could hold an adoption event? Maybe you belong to an organization that would be interested in a talk by one of our volunteers? We have done presentations for a variety of groups including the YMCA, scouts, libraries, Mom's Clubs, church groups, and schools.
Please spread the word! Many people know they can adopt a dog or a cat from a shelter or rescue, but most people have no idea that adoption is an option for pocket pets. Tell your friends and family members that they don't have to support the pet store sale of animals.
We have many volunteer opportunities for you to help make a difference for rescued small animals, in areas from administration to foster care to adoptions to fund-raising. Click here for details.
March 2009: Small Angels received $2,000 from the Frederick County Humane Society as part of a cooperative agreement to provide spay/neuter to guinea pigs in the rescue. This will help us to reach our shared goal of reducing guinea pig overpopulation, by ensuring guinea pigs adopted from us cannot contribute to this overpopulation.
