FEATURED DOG(S)

This is Agnes, a senior, black Lab mix who is very active and seeking her forever home. Agnes was initially rather alpha like but perhaps she had not lived within a pack before. She has now relaxed and is doing very well. Agnes is spayed, crate and house trained. Please give a senior, black dog named Agnes a home!! You will be very blessed.

he learns to fight.
he learns to be shy.
he learns aggression.
he learns security.
he learns to try.

The History of Thanksgiving
I Rescued a Human
I rescued a human today.
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels.
I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage.
I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today.
Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past.
I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me.
I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her.
Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.
A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.
I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor.
So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors.
So many more to be saved.
At least I could save one.

As of July 15, 2008,
I can accept no more dogs due to being over full w/wonderful, adoptable dogs.
Thank you for your trust w/these dogs - please adopt so I may help more :).
Owner surrenders are asked to financially support
their former dogs until adoption occurs.
I look forward to helping you adopt
one of my wonderful dogs or directing you to my links or contacts
who may also have great dogs for adoption and/or information.
The links are further down the page.

Please see Raggedy Ann, Elvis, and others
who are waiting at the Rainbow Bridge under Happy Tails/RIP.
Because I also have senior dogs,
we must acknowledge that death is a part of life.
I know these dogs had a loving home for the last months/years of their lives.
"Old dogs, like old shoes, are comfortable -
they may be a bit out of shape and worn around the edges,
but they fit so well."
We appreciate any help or donations.
All donations go directly to support the dogs and their care.
Thank you for caring about rescued dogs.
All Silverwalk dogs live in the house with 24/7 access via a dog door to the yards/field.
All dogs are up to date on shots and needed medical treatment as well as receiving basic obedience training.
Silverwalk is lucky to have dog trainer Marilyn Olson Neville, e-mail:ace@clas.net
and animal behaviorist Tara Lang available for assistance when needed.
The wonderful vets at LaCroix Pet Hospital and Dogwood Veterinary Clinic
here in Cape Girardeau, & Scott City Animal Clinic in Scott City, MO
make sure these dogs are healthy, wealthy in spirit, and perhaps wise :).

are regularly volunteering to dog walk Silverwalk hounds. We have all seen improvement in the dogs plus we have fun!

Nov. 10, 07 -
We are on the front page! Please check the link below to read about Silverwalk and
others who are helping transport and rescue dogs throughout our region and country;
a VERY big thank you to Sam Blackwell of the Southeast Missourian newspaper for his in-depth coverage: Sam is now teaching journalism at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape - his column still runs on Thursdays in the paper.
Animals' long trip to a better life
Please take the time to respond to the editor or make a comment.
We want to support Sam and the Southeast Missourian
in their coverage of animal welfare. Thank you!

Please start by e-mailing for an application for adoption. Vet, personal references and a home visit are necessary prior to adoption.
The goal is for both the dog and the adopter to be very happy for a very long time.
Please check out this campaign link before you decide to get a dog: www.dontgetadog.com
There will be a binding adoption contract to be signed and an adoption fee of $150-$300 paid at the time you receive your dog.
This fee in no way covers the cost of caring for a dog till adoption
but is meant to indicate how seriously Silverwalk values life.
It also helps support those dogs who are not sponsored.
Limited transport help is available.
References are available from adopters - please ask.

Buddy's human mom, Barb (the lost dog whose family found him via Silverwalk on Petfinder), asked if we could use donations - YES!
Silverwalk certainly can use cash, blankets, dog food, dog beds, laundry detergent, crates,
anything that may make a dog's life more comfortable as he awaits his forever home.
