Adoption Policy

POLICY

We do NOT work on a first come, first serve basis,

many applicants are considered for each of our dogs, just because we receive your application, contact your refs, and EVEN do your home visit does not mean you will get the dog

We do our VERY BEST to communicate with you during each step of the process, we understand that some families will be DISAPPOINTED as there is only one dog available.

FEES

BEGIN at $200 .. Please ask about the specific donation fee for the pet you are inquiring about.

If you cannot afford to pay this "small fee" please do not email us about our FUREVER Best Friends ! as we feel they are PRICELESS and only deserving of the VERY BEST !

This fee includes all vetting which would cost anyone else twice as much.

We also bathe all our pets and if necessary professionally groom as well

If you cannot afford these fees, you cannot afford to apply/adopt one of OES&FR's "Best Friends".

Many of our unwanted/unloved or neglected angels need so much medical attention and grooming when they arrive as they have been uncared for, left outside, are strays or just basically neglected for a very long time EVEN the shelters they end up in ONLY give the least amount of medical attention (unbelievable but TRUE).

We take these expenses into consideration when determining the adoption fee for each individual angel.

We spend many hundreds of dollars to "fix-up" just one ANGEL. We have paid for cosmetic eye surgery, umbilical hernia's and HEARTWORM treatments which were all extremely expensive.

All expenses come out of my own pocket and when a dog is place in a FUREVER home/family, the funds go back into the rescue funds.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE

1. Fill out an adoption application by Emailing Shaggydogrescuer@yahoo.com to request one, complete and email back, computer access is a must as all applications are filed on the computer for future access

2. We will review and process the application, applications not completed filled out can not be processed, please take your time so that we dont' have to contact you unnecessarily for information

You will receive an email confirming we received your application, as well as emails regarding contact with your references.

3. Once an application is approved on paper, we will request to set up an appointment to do a Meet & Greet with the dog, depending on scheduling sometimes visits can be done here at OUR RESCUE or we will do the HOME Check and bring the dog you are interested in. A home check is just to bring the animal over and see how it does with everyone in the family. EVERYONE who lives there must be at this appointment. EVEN if you come meet the dog at OUR RESCUE a Home Check is still mandatory

4. Set appointment with a veterinary within one week of adoption. This appointment is to familiarize your vet with the animal and get any necessary meds such as heartworm and flea meds. I will be checking with the vet for verification of the appointment and telling them what you need for this pet.

5. Make arrangement with OES&FR to come and pick up your New Best Friend at OUR RESCUE.

6. Keep appointment with vet as I do check to make sure you have done this.

7. Keep pet UTD on vaccinations when due and send OES&FR a copy to show this is done.

We do not ship my BEST FRIENDS, you must be able to come to the PIttsburgh area to do a Meet & Greet !

1. High Grade Dog Food

2. Quality Collars/Leashes

3. Cableline ( 30 ft or more) for dogs to stretch their legs

4. Rawhide Chews, Treats, and Toys for our furry friends

5. Stainless steel food and water bowls (plastic is fine)

6. Any Dog Flea Treatment or Heartgard supplies would be graciously welcomed

7. Dog grooming supplies, High quality Shampoos, grooming utensils, etc.

8. Good Condition Thick Comforters for the doggies to lay on, these are very easy to wash when accidents happen

9. Cleaning supplies: Lysol Cleaner, Glade Plug-in's, Paper Towels, Garbage Bags, etc.

10. Last but certainly not least of course is any Monetary donation, we can accept donations via PayPal. Please ask for our account name first .
