We are a new no-kill cat rescue facility that opened in September 2004. We are 501(c)3, so all donations are tax deductible. Together we have over 15 years combined experience in cat rescue. Our shelter is completely run by volunteers and is a non profit organization. Please join us in our mission is to give current owners and/or concerned citizens another option to combat the euthanasia statistics currently in Milwaukee.
In 2006 we adopted 256 cats and kittens into loving homes!!!!! In 2007 we placed 286 cats into new homes. We adopted out 267 cats in 2008. Help us reach our goal of 300 for 2009!
Adopting a friend
All animals at Second Hand Purrs are given a veterinary exam before arriving at the shelter and the following procedures are included in the adoption fee:
Tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV
Distemper Booster
Rabies Booster (if 6 months or older)
Deworming preventative
Flea bath
Ear mite treatment, if needed
Spayed or neutered (if 6 months of age or older)
Stool tested
Nail trim
Our adoption fee is $80 for one cat/kitten or two cats/kittens for $130. We do not adopt to anyone under the age of 21. We do in-home deliveries only. All adoptions must be in the State of Wisconsin. We will deliver up to 50 miles from Milwaukee.

We have open houses on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please come visit our residents and we will help make a purrfect match!!!

PICK 'N SAVE WE CARE PROGRAM
We have just become a part of the Pick 'n Save "We Care Program". If you would like to designate Second Hand Purrs as your charity of choice, you must obtain a change form for your Savers Club Application Card. Our charity code number is 703260. Your grocery purchases help our cats and kittens. The more people we have shopping with our code number, the more funds we will have for veterinary and basic day to day care.
ALUMINUM CAN DRIVE!!!!!
Second Hand Purrs will be collecting aluminum cans as a fundraiser. Collection dates will be during open house hours, which are Thursdays from 6-9 pm and Satrudays from 10 am to 3 pm.
Please bring your cans to 4300 South Howell Avenue on the above dates. If possible, please rinse your cans while you are recycling them. Alternate drop-off site is 4134 South Austin Street (1 1/2 blocks North and 3 blocks East of SHP.)
TURN TRASH INTO CA$H
It's FUN, EASY and FREE. Bring in your empty inkjet, laser, fax and copier cartridges, used cell phones, laptops, PDAs (Palm Pilots), and iPods. You can help by collecting these items from home, work, family, friends and neighbors.
