Second Chance Animal Rescue is a small entirely volunteer 501 (c) 3 non profit, based in Lamar, Colorado. We rescue primarily dogs but also rescue cats, horses and wild animals including, opossum, raptors, and a variety of songbirds. We have no facility, our dogs and cats live in foster homes with our volunteers.
Second Chance rescues about 500 dogs and cats annually. Many of these dogs are abandoned, some are neglected or abused. All of them just need a little TIME and that is what we give them. Our dogs and cats spend sometimes just a week or so to gain home skills like housetraining or leash training, some dogs come from much more difficult and often heartwrenching circumstances and stay with us months until they are ready to look for their forever home.
Volunteers dedicate hearts and hands for what is sometimes several months work toward teaching skills and creating opportunities for animals who would otherwise have none. Foster 'parents' provide training, home skills, socialization , confidence building and most importantly love and acceptance.
Every dog deserves the patience, training and time it needs to be a great companion and that is what we do, EVERY DAY.
All charitable donations to us are tax deductible and will be acknowledged.
Adoptions of dogs and cats include spay or neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, de-worming and local health check. Adult dogs are heartworm tested and on monthly heartworm preventative. Adopters receive a professionaly produced $30 training DVD FREE, numerous training or behavior informational handouts and new pet collar.
Second Chance strives for the best match for both our animals and your family. We request that everyone participate, so please bring your family, children and other dogs so everyone can get involved in the meeting and selection of a new companion !
Our site is updated regularly, at least twice weekly, so you can be assured that the information is current and up to date. It is very important to us that we get back to you in a timely fashion. If you have contacted us and we have not responded within 24-36 hours, it is very likely we did not get your call or email. We are often in the field long hours and when we get in, it is too late to call, but EMAIL we can do early and late. Please help us by contacting us again, putting the animals name in the subject line of your email (so it does not get confused as spam) or emailing directly from the link on the biography page under each animals picture. We look forward to hearing from you!
