Our Adoptable Pet List

About our Petfinder Page

The County of San Diego operates three animal shelters -- in Bonita, San Diego, and Carlsbad. This page features animals available for adoption to the public at the NORTH shelter (in Carlsbad) only. The South Shelter in Bonita, and the Central Shelter in Mission Valley are now on Petfinder as well!

Our Petfinder listings are maintained by volunteers. While we make every effort to update our Petfinder listings as often as possible, we recommend visiting our main website at http://www.sddac.com for the most comprehensive and up-to-date list of adoptable animals. Of course, nothing beats visiting the shelters in person! Come on down and find your new companion animal today!

If you are looking for your lost pet, please visit http://www.sddac.com/ and go to "Lost and Found" on the left-hand menu.

Adopting a Friend

At any one time, the Department's three shelters will have hundreds of dogs, cats, and rabbits available for adoption, of all types and varieties. Other domestic animals, such as birds, rodents, or reptiles, are generally available as well. In fact, our shelters in Carlsbad and Bonita often have livestock such as pigs, goats, ducks, and chickens waiting for a new home.

Puppies and kittens are most prevalent in the spring and summer months, but do show up in the shelters year round. Adoption fees are $58 for cats and kittens, $69 for dogs and puppies, and $25 for rabbits. (Special adoption fees are available for animals seven years of age or older as well as for senior citizens/disabled persons.) The adoption fee includes vaccinations, spay or neutering, medical and behavior evaluation, identification microchipping and, for dogs residing in the Department's service area, a one-year free license.
