| Adopting a Friend At any one time, the Department's three shelters will have hundreds of dogs, cats, and rabbits available for adoption, of all types and varieties. Other domestic animals, such as birds, rodents, or reptiles, are generally available as well. In fact, our shelters in Carlsbad and Bonita often have livestock such as pigs, goats, ducks, and chickens waiting for a new home. Puppies and kittens are most prevalent in the spring and summer months, but do show up in the shelters year round. When there is not a special running, adoption fees are normally $58 for cats and kittens, $69 for dogs and puppies, and $25 for rabbits. (Reduced adoption fees are available for animals five years of age or older as well as for senior citizens/disabled persons.) The adoption fee includes vaccinations, spay or neutering, medical and behavior evaluation, identification microchipping and, for dogs residing in the Department's service area, a one-year free license. |
