The best and most greatly loved cats and dogs live at SPAC - come and see!

November is "Adopt a Senior Pet Month". Check out our available pets online, or stop in to visit, and make special note of our senior dogs and cats. Senior pets know the value of a loving home, and often they are 'ready made' companions! Senior pets can be a wonderful choice for just about anyone. Plus, because they are less likely to be adopted than younger pets, you do something really special when you adopt an "Oldie but Goodie"! Please, give an older dog or cat a chance....Seniors RULE!

One day for 'Black Friday"? That's not enough! Check out BLACK (CAT) FRIDAY all month long at SPAC! For the month of November - any day, not just Fridays- you can adopt a black or black & white cat for a special reduced adoption fee. Want to adopt 2 cats? Adopt one Black or Black & White cat at the regular adoption fee and get one of any color FREE! (Spay/Neuter deposit still applies as necessary). SPAC has MANY black and black & white cats and kittens this year, and each needs good homes. You'll have nothing but good luck with our black cats!

Priority items that SPAC needs: CAT & DOG FOOD - both canned and dry; CAT LITTER; BLEACH; DRY KITTEN FOOD (Purina or Science Diet); PAPER TOWELS; AIR FRESHENER (such as Oust, Glade, or Febreze). Any little bit that you can give helps! SPAC supporters make the shelter great for our pets waiting to be adopted!

ALERT! SPAC is requesting special donations to help pay for Jewel's surgery. Jewel (picture above) is a wonderful brindle and white love-a-bull pit girl who had surgery to remove mammary and other tumors on 11/12. Jewel isn't an old dog; she is 6-8 years old, and is quickly becoming a much loved darling at the shelter. A biopsy was done and results should come in soon. **Fingers crossed for the best outcome for this fantastic dog!** If you want to help SPAC pay down the vet bill you can do so by calling the shelter and making a donation by credit/debit card, or by mailing in a donation check. Of course you can also make a donation in person, and meet Jewel! The cost of the surgery is approximately $1,200.

Will someone PLEASE, for Pete's sake, adopt this cat?

Glinda is funny, sweet, inquisitive, and gets into everything! She has made herself the "inspector" of the front desk, and confiscates paper clips, pens, markers...anything that she finds facinating, which is a LOT! While it can be frustrating for whomever is sitting at the front desk to continually grab pens, paper clips, and other items from Glinda's inspection, her charm and silliness quickly make up for any bit of frustration. Glinda has a lot of character; she is a purring, nuzzling, love-biting sweetheart who really needs someone to dote on her. Is she the right match for you?

Cruiser is an amazing cat!

Big, cool cat Cruiser loves people. He is OK with other cats and has tons of character and charm (and appetite!). He's one of a kind and a real find for cat lovers who are looking for a 'substantial" cat!

WHERE DO YOUR DONATION DOLLARS GO?

At SPAC we have three 'funds' that are supported by our generous donors:

Sonny's Fund - This fund is designed to help adoptable animals who have severe but treatable medical problems. The fund covers animals who need important surgeries, medications, or visits with veterinary specialists.

Spay/Neuter Fund - pays for the spays and neuters of our adoptable cats and dogs. We strive to have every animal altered prior to adoption; it's the ONLY way to 'fix' the problem of pet overpopulation!

General Fund - supports everyday necessities at the shelter: pet food, kitty litter, cleaning and office supplies, minor repairs, etc.

Monetary donations can be designated for a specific fund, or we will apply them where they are needed most. Donations may made in person at the shelter, may be mailed to the shelter, or you can click on our "Donate" link to use Paypal. Please remember that all donations to SPAC are tax-deductible. From the bottom of our 'paws' to the top of our heads, thank you for your generosity!

Other News... The site was last updated on 11-17-09.
Who We Are... Sayreville Pet Adoption Center is a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter that seeks loving homes for stray or unwanted cats and dogs. More than 700 pets are adopted annually. Contact the shelter directly at (732) 727-3895. We're open 7 days a week for your convenience - see our hours at the top of the page.
Adopting a Friend... We have plenty of animals who deserve loving homes. The adoption fee includes up-to-date vaccines as well as spay/neuter. Dogs are tested for heartworm and cats are tested for leukemia and feline AIDS. Please note that we require an in-person meeting and completion of an application for all adoptions. We do not adopt animals as gifts. We do not ship or deliver pets.

All potential adopters at Sayreville Pet Adoption Center must complete an application in order to adopt a pet. Applications are available at the shelter, or you can request an application by emailing pawsup@verizon.net . We make every attempt to review and process aplications within 24-48 hours of their submission, but in some cases the process may take longer. Completion of an application neither guarantees an adoption nor does it place a pet "on hold". Approved applicants will be contacted once the review is completed. SAME DAY ADOPTIONS WILL NOT OCCUR UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Therefore, if you plan to travel from a distance to meet one of our pets, please contact us so that your application may be completed and reviewed prior to your visit.

Adoption fees:

Adult cats - $75
Kittens - $75 (plus spay/neuter deposit if applicable)
Adult dogs - $100
Puppies - $150 (plus spay/neuter deposit if applicable)

PLEASE NOTE: All of our adult dogs and cats are SPAYED or NEUTERED before they leave the shelter. THERE IS SIMPLY NO OTHER WAY TO FIGHT PET OVERPOPULATION THAN BY SPAYING/NEUTERING OUR PETS. Not to mention, neutered pets are healthier, happier and live longer lives!

Volunteer... Volunteers over the age of 18 are needed to help at the shelter for a few hours any day of the week walking dogs, socializing with the cats, or both! We also need volunteers to help raise donations and awareness of the shelter by assisting with special events - these volunteers may be under 18 years of age! If you want to help walking dogs, please contact Cathy at pawsup@verizon.net. If you would like to help the cats or to volunteer at events, please contact Barbara at spacpets@yahoo.com.
Donations... We always need:
CANNED CAT & DOG FOOD!
BLEACH & LAUNDRY DETERGENT!
Monetary Donations in any amount
Kitty Litter
Contractor-sized trash bags
Rawhides/kongs/nylabones for the dogs -- and cat toys!!!

Thank you for any help you can provide!
