Who We Are

Sanctuary by the Sea is a very small but dedicated non-profit rescue, focusing solely on the homeless Bully Breeds (Pitbulls, AmStaffs, Staffies) and their mixes at risk of euthanasia, or those who are in situations of abuse and neglect. Our dogs are brought up in a home environment, made possible by our limited number of dogs, where they learn manners both in the house and in public, are socialized, trained and integrated into loving family pets. We focus on bully breeds due to their great personalities and character, and also because about 50% of all the dogs in the LA Shelters(which kill over 500 dogs a week) are pitbulls or pibull mixes. They make awesome familiy companions- despite what all of the media leads you to believe."Pitbulls are famous in circles of knowlegable dog people for the love and loyalty they bestow upon anyone who shows them a smidgen of kindness." In a recent study by the American Temperament Testing Society (ATTS), out of the 122 different breeds of dogs tested in their likeliness to bite a person, the Pit Bull was fourth... from the bottom. The pitbull is the only dog to have human aggression physically bred out.

Adopting a Friend

To adopt a dog from Sanctuary by the Sea, you will be required to fill out an adoption application/questionnaire. If you would like to fill one out, please email us and ask us to send you an application. We do not adopt on a "first come, first serve" policy, but to those we feel are most compatible with the dog of interest and the most qualified home. We require that our potential homes have researched the breed or have had experience with Pit Bulls, and that all members of the family (including other dogs) come and meet the dog before adopting. We also require new homes to sign our adoption contract, and allow us to make a home visit. There is a non-refundable adoption fee. The adoption fee will vary per dog and helps with the costs of vaccinations, spay/neuter, food, treats, toys, healthcare, flea preventative, etc.

Please take the time to watch this video. The fate of the animals are in our hands- please spay and neuter your pets. For every puppy or kitten born, another is put to sleep in its place. There is a balance in this world, you can not have the miracle of life without the miracle of death. Please do not support breeders- one our of every four dog that enter the shelters are purebred.
