Our Featured Dog: Poodle (we think!) , C13-0798
We think there is a poodle somewhere underneath all the matts and tangles on his coat. This poor fellow has probably lived his life outside from the looks of him, and has never been groomed as he needs to be. He needs a loving, caring home, one where they will take proper care of him. Or a rescue group to get him out of the shelter so he can be shaved down and feel comfortable... probably for the first time in his life! Adult male, about 4 year old, poodle (we think!).
Our Featured Cat: Calico Domestic Shorthair Cat, F13-0782
This lovely Calico cat is about a year old, a female (of course), and needs a home. Stop by to visit her at the shelter. She is patiently awaiting her new family! And if she is not the perfect match, take a peek at all the other possibilities.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DESIGNER DOGS AND MUTTS? LOTS OF MONEY!
Think you can tell the difference between "mutts" and so-called designer dogs (who people pay thousands of dollars for?) Take this quiz and see how well you do:

Lost and Found Pets
If your pet is lost, we suggest you stop by the shelter to see if we have it. Even though we try to get photos of all animals in the shelter, we may not have the photo posted on our Petfinder site at the time you check the website...so please, stop by if you have lost your pet. We have had some wonderful reunions at the shelter. We are delighted to reunite lost pets with their owners and remind pet owners to tag or microchip their pets with identification information. Rio Rancho city licenses are just $4 for spayed/neutered animals. Senior citizens pay only $2 for a license for spayed/neutered pets. The city license for unaltered animals is $25. City licenses enable the shelter to quickly locate the owner as long as the address/phone on file is current. If you have found an animal, please report it to Rio Rancho Animal Control at (505) 891-5075. When Rio Rancho Animal Control finds or receives an animal, we check for tags or microchip identification. If owner information is available, we contact the owner. All animals are held for 7 days to give owners time to reclaim. Unclaimed, non-aggressive animals, are made available for adoption. During the 7-day period, animals may be reserved for adoption by an interested party if the owner does not reclaim the animal by the end of the 7-day period. Only one "reserve" is accepted for each animal thus ensuring the "reserver" has the first chance to adopt the animal if it is not claimed by owner.
