PLEASE NOTE: We cannot verify/guarantee information that was given to us by previous owners. The majority of the animals at our shelter were picked up by the county animal control officer, we know nothing about their background, other than the fact that they were abandoned. They are housed at local veterinarian offices, until they come into our care. We rely on the judgement of the vet staff as to personalites - remember, the vet staff has handled them, given them shots/tests/surgery - if they reacted badly or showed bad temperament at that point they would never be allowed to enter our shelter system. These animals have more than likey been bounced from home to home before they come to us, and therefore require a little patience and understanding while adjusting to their new lives and homes.

PPI 2009 Calendars available now! Pick yours up today at the Book Mouse or Annette Barr Photography, both in Ottawa. All proceeds benefit the shelter.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Pet Project Inc. is a no-kill shelter. However, there is no pound in LaSalle County. Stray dogs and cats are housed by some of our local veterinarians. Quite often we will post courtesy listings for pets on behalf of the vets - in hopes of locating their original owners, or in hopes of finding them new homes. These pets are picked up as strays throughout the county - you can tell by looking that they've been cared for and are healthy and friendly. We can arrange an appointment for you to meet any of these pets, please write or call us - 99.99% of the time these dogs and cats are in danger of being euthanized due to lack of space. If our shelter is full, we cannot take them, but we can try to help save them. We have only so much room at our shelter, and particular times of the year, both ourselves and the vets are overloaded with homeless animals. These animals have no other chance at finding homes unless we try to help as best we can. We are not affiliated with any county/city animal control program - but we do work with them when necessary, in order to save as many lives as possible

Please check your spam/junk mail folders if you do not hear from us! Sometimes messages end up in there, depending on your email settings. Remember to check for replies if you don't hear from us right away.

Who We Are

PET PROJECT INC. is dedicated to saving the lives of unwanted, abused, or abandoned pets. We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Our shelter is a NO-KILL animal shelter. We are not state, county or federally funded. All of our funding is raised entirely by donations and charity events. We are run entirely with a volunteer staff - all of our staff is committed to finding our furry friends the loving home they need and deserve. BIG or small - we LOVE them ALL!!!!

We are in need of VOLUNTEERS

It is a truly rewarding experience. Just a little bit of your time makes a huge difference. We need people to answer phones, walk the dogs, do laundry, help feed, water and clean cages. And so much more. If you are interested in becoming part of our team please email or phone the shelter. You can also call Mary at 433-6890.

Adopting a friend

The first step to adopting your pet is pet/owner compatibility. We want to make sure that the pet you choose, chooses you also!! We like for each of you to meet and get to know one another. Then all the proper paper work must be completed. There is an adoption fee on all dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. All animals that are old enough are spayed/neutered, and all have been dewormed and vaccinated. Dogs are also microchipped. Our new policy is that an application must be filled out and returned to Pet Project by email or fax or snail mail. If you are the person that has matched one of our pets you will be given a number to call for answers to questions you may have or to answer questions we have for you. At this time you will be able to make an appointment to come to the shelter. Making an appointment to begin the adoption process is recommended. You may call the shelter daily. Feel free to email as well. If you don't see what you are looking, for please ASK. We get new dogs and cats often and may be able to find the pet you are looking for or have that pet at the shelter but not up online yet.

ALL DOGS MUST BE INDOOR DOGS UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE. CATS MUST BE INDOOR PETS AS WELL. WE DO ADOPT OUT OF STATE TO APPROVED APPLICANTS, HOWEVER WE DO NOT SHIP. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO COME TO THE SHELTER TO FILL OUT THE PROPER PAPERWORK TO COMPLETE THE ADOPTION.
