Paradise Garden Animal Haven, named after Sarah Paradisegarten Zemel, officially opened its doors on July 1, 2004. Our mission is to provide humane education programs, in which spay/neuter is emphasized, to conduct outreach programs for seniors who would benefit from a companion animal, to promote TNR programs for feral cats, to facilitate low-cost spay/neuter and to offer adoption services for cats and dogs.
We are happy to report that we have just accomplished two of our major goals. In February 2006 we were granted our 50l (c) 3 status. We are now a tax deductible, not-for-profit, public charity. Secondly, in November 2005 we moved our haven to its new location in rural Woodhull, New York. We offer many thanks to all who contributed to this project. Support from fellow animal lovers has made this a dream come true. We also want to give special thanks to an individual who wishes to remain anonymous. This generous benefactor asks only that we honor her dedication to St. Francis and St. Jude.
The haven is now located on a thirty five acre farm, in Steuben County, not far from Corning. The renovated, heated and secure barn is now home to the adoptable cats, who are free to roam in their spacious and sunny habitats. At PGAH, Pets Get a Home until we find their forever home.
We have completed construction of our two feral cat enclosures. These cats have been rescued primarily from New Jersey, their lives in peril with no place left to go. We have also completed the cat-safe fencing which allows these independent, wild cats freedom to come and go from their indoor shelter to their large and open outdoor habitat. We provide life-long care to these cats who would have been destroyed. We thank all those who helped these cats and kittens on their way to our safe haven.
We are offering our new community low-cost spay/neuter assistance. We welcome area residents to contact us for information about this valuable new program. This program is made possible through contributions from the public and the generous cooperation of Shelter Outreach Services and Chemung County SPCA.
We ask for your financial assistance to keep these programs funded. Besides the expense of these programs, each week we need 300 pounds of wood pellet litter, as well as paper towels, rubber gloves, bleach, cotton swabs, plastic garbage bags, and bedding, just to name a few items. All donations of goods, services and funds are tax-deductible. Please help in any way you feel comfortable, but please help!
Many thanks to Hills Science Diet for accepting us into their Shelter Partner Program. This program provides us with their high quality food, sample bags of food for our adopters and many valuable resources to assist us in our work.
There are many areas in which to volunteer. If you love animals and want to make a difference, please contact us to learn more about the opportunities to help at PGAH.
If you are not able to adopt a pet, please consider sponsoring one of our cats or kittens. For a contribution of $10 per month you can support the pet of your choice. We will provide you with monthly email updates, complete with photos, on your pet's progress towards adoption.
