NEWS - NEWS - NEWS

Beginning March 29, 2011 NTCR will start microchipping its kittens and cats. Due to the added cost NTCR will raise the adoption fee for those cats microchipped on and after March 29, 2011 to $115.00 ( a $5 increase). The cats will be registered thru NTCR and adopter's info will be sent to Microchip Manufacturer within 1 (one) week of adoption. The registration for life is ppd. The chip number will be found on the Medical Record of each kitty.

Beginning February 14, 2011 North Texas Cat Rescue will manage the permanent adoption center and hold weekly adoption events at Petsmart in Allen 107 E. STACY Rd ( in the Village of Allen). The adoption center in Petsmart McKinney at 380 and 75 will be managed by " Linens for Animals" Rescue.

ALL KITTENS UNDER THE AGE OF 14 WEEKS NEED TO BE ADOPTED IN PAIRS FOR PROPER BEHAVIORAL DEVELOPMENT. At that age a kitten need the companionship of a kitten of same age to play and learn proper behaviors like not to play rough, not to bite. A KITTEN RAISED WITH A KITTEN OF HIS/HER OWN AGE WILL NOT BECOME A BITER OR ROUGH PLAYER WITH CHILDREN. In addition, kittens who have a playmate won't become destructive out of boredom. An older cat won't replace a playmate of same age: he/she doesn't have the same level of energy!

NTCR is in great need of volunteers to clean cages and give lots of TLC to the kitties showcased in our permanent adoption centerin Petsmart 107 E.Stacy Rd. in Allen. If interested to help once a week or once a month or as often as you want morning or evening contact volunteer@northtexascatrescue.org

New Vaccination Protocole

Starting October 14,2008 all kittens and cats entering our adoption program will receive the FelV ( Feline Leukemia) vaccine - if old enough- in addition to FVRCP. These recommendations are consistent with the vaccination guidelines developed by the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP). NTCR will have to raise the adoption fee from $95.00 to $110.00.

Want to help? Fosters needed

Kittens need foster homes for a few weeks before beiing scheduled for spay/neuter. If you are interested in fostering please visit www.northtexascatrescue.org: volunteer opportunities and check foster booklet for more info on our foster program. Kitten season has started! If you have good experience with bottle feeding and/or tube feeding kittens please contact brigitte@northtexascatrescue.org Bottle and/or tube feeding has to be done on a very strict schedule: kittens need to be fed every 2-3 hours around the clock. Fosters need to be very experienced and be able to recognize signs of distress ( dehydration, hypothermia....) in kittens- Being able to give Sub-Q fluids a requirement.
