Our Featured Pet...
Sampson is 1&1/2 years old and probably a mix of catahoula leopard dog/great dane and pitbull terrier. He weighs about 80 lbs.
Sampson is an active boy who loves to chase sticks/balls, but can also be laid back and relaxed inside. He gets along well with dogs of all sizes, but we prefer that he go to a home with one or 2 other dogs so he can have more one-one-one attention which he enjoys so much.
Sampson also gets along well wtih children, but may be a bit too much for very small children.
Sampson is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and up-to-date on all vaccinations. We are working on houestraining, and is doing very well. As with any dog, he will need reinforcement in his new home to make sure he learns there, as well.
Sampson is a handsome, sweet boy who would love to find a loving, active family to call his own :)
News
We are currently working with The Healing Species (www.healingspecies.org) to gain grant money to start a Compassion/Character Education program in NC schools. Character Education teaches children compassion and responsibility, which are learned, rather than violence and indifference. Children who have experienced abuse or neglect learn that instead of continuing this cycle, they can heal their hearts and spirits by doing nice things for others--people and animals. They also come to realize that companion animals, like themselves, are not lives than can be neglected or mistreated. These children are the adults of a less-violent tomorrow, who will learn how to properly care for their animals today in order to minimize the problems of abuse, neglect, and overpopulation that our country is currently facing. Who We Are
NCARES is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization devoted to raising public awareness of the link between animal abuse and violence toward humans. We use humane education to break this cycle today in order to contribute to a less-violent society tomorrow. Other efforts include animal rescue, rescue transport, general humane education issues, as well as spay/neuter awareness.
Adopting a friend
In order to adopt an animal from NCARES, you will need to contact us to complete an adoption application. Most animals have a $75 adoption donation, but there are exceptions. Adoption donations may range from $75 to $300 depending on veterinary and other costs incurred for a particular animal. Check the petfinder ad for the particular animal you are interested in adopting to find out the adoption donation for that animal. With each adoption we also require a home-check, and will also check a personal reference and a veterinary reference. Once approved, all adopters must sign an adoption contract.
Before any animal is placed in his/her new home, the animal will be current on all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, and all dogs will be on heartworm preventative. The adoption contract that is signed states that the animal will be kept current on all vaccines, stay on heartworm preventive, and will be an indoor pet. We do not advocate outdoor dogs or cats and therefore we do not adopt to outdoor homes.
