Diamonds in the Ruff is a canine rescue group in North Carolina. Our goal is to find healthy, loving, lifelong homes for dogs already born into this world. We rescue puppies and dogs from our local animal shelter that are scheduled to be euthanized and give them a chance to find a loving home. We believe in taking care of the existing dogs and puppies instead of supporting breeding that most often results in suffering and homeless animals.
Our utmost concern is matching pet to owner ensuring a successful union to last a lifetime. We require one home visit with the dog prior to the adoption and one home visit, at our request, after the adoption. If at any time, should the dog be, in our opinion, neglected, malnourished or lacking in the proper care – you must agree to relinquish the dog to us on demand. If for any reason you cannot keep the dog, you must notify us to return the dog.
Once adopted, it is required that each dog is examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible so the dog can be given a thorough physical exam.
The adopter also contracts that he/she will alter (spay/neuter) the dog at six (6) months of age if adopted before this time.
Most of the dogs presented on our pages have been rescued from the Animal Adoption & Education Center in Wayne County of North Carolina and are now living in temporary foster homes with incredibly caring people.
Diamonds in the Ruff charges a small fee to adopt a pet. This fee helps cover the cost of caring for the pets, initial vet visit and preparing them for adoption.

IMPORTANT- PLEASE READ!
If you have seen a dog or puppy on our website that interests you, please submit an application by following the steps below.
The application will be processed by an adoption counselor. ALL adoptive families go through the same screening process. We will make contact with you to answer any questions you may have and review your application. Incomplete applications will not be considered as the information you give us on your application is essential in determining the compatibility of the dog you have requested with your life-style.
At this time, we will also conduct a vet reference to determine the health of your past and current animals including yearly vet maintenance. ALL potential adoptive families must have up-to-date veterinary records on all pets currently residing in the home. We believe for health and temperament reasons that it is in the best interest of the dog to be spayed or neutered. We will not adopt a dog into a home if your current dog(s) are not spayed or neutered. We will, however, work with you to provide resources and education to spay or neuter your dog. After completing the spay/neuter process, we will review your application again.
If your application is approved, a volunteer will contact you to arrange an appointment for you to meet the dog or puppy you are interested in adopting. We also require a home visit and adoption fee. All rescue dogs must live indoors - no exceptions! (click here to read an article on "Outside Dogs")
All of our dogs are adopted on a two-week trial period. If at any time, during that two weeks you feel you can not fulfill your commitment we will refund your adoption fee and take the dog back into our care. If at any time during the dog's life you can not fulfill your commitment, you will be required to return the dog to Diamonds in the Ruff Canine Rescue.
Diamonds in the Ruff Canine Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption to any applicant. *Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.**Fenced in yard required! (invisible fencing not accepted)

Unlike other fund raising projects, there are no products to buy and distribute. All we are asking is that you donate any unused cell phones that you have at home. Please drop phones off at Cuts-4-Muttz at 2809 Royall Avenue in Goldsboro or call 919-222-0500 to arrange for pickup.
We use Patented Kuranda Dog Beds because they are durable, chew proof and easy to clean. If you would like to donate a bed to Diamonds in the Ruff please click the image below.
Diamonds in the Ruff Canine Rescue is in need of quality foster homes!
Foster families are an important part of our organization ensuring that dogs/puppies have a chance to grow and develop before finding their forever home. The foster parent gives the dog/puppy a caring temporary home while a permanent home is being sought. If you have room in your heart and home to become a foster parent, please contact Susan Wheeler at 919-222-0500 or download a foster application and e-mail it to us at Diamonds in the Ruff.
Each new foster home enables us to save another animal. We appreciate the love, time and commitment you make to the animals that you foster. You’ll earn the satisfaction that you’ve helped save a life!
Thank you for considering a rescue!
