New Albany Floyd County Animal Control and Shelter was established by an inter-local agreement between the City of New Albany, Indiana and Floyd County, Indiana Governments. Its mission is to provide services which safeguard public health and safety, educate its citizens on responsible pet ownership, protect our community’s animals from cruelty and neglect, and to humanely house, care for and provide placement or humane resolution for the animals in its care. In addition, we work closely with local non-profits and community organizations to reduce pet overpopulation and provide humane education programs to our community.

One of the top reasons families relinquish their dogs to a shelter is due to behavior issues. The New Albany Floyd County Animal Control and Shelter recognizes this and is now offering affordable dog training classes to the public. These classes will now include one evening without your pet for a Pet First Aid Class. This class is taught by Sara Beavin a certified Pet First Aid Trainer with the American Red Cross. The class will give you basic pet First Aid you can do at home for your animal and a basic pet First Aid Kit that you can put together. Classes will be held every Sunday evening for 7 weeks from 6:30pm to 7:30pm and 7:30 to 8:30. Classes are limited to the first 10 paid applicants and begin with a people only class. The classes are $60.00 for the general public. BUT! If you have adopted your pet from the NAFC Animal Control and Shelter the cost for classes is only $20.00!
