Who We Are

Nacogdoches Animal Services and Adoption Center is a city run animal shelter. Volunteers and staff work very hard to find homes for as many animals as possible. Our main focus is on dogs and cats, however we have had creatures great and small, walking and crawling, surrendered for adoption.

How can you become involved?

One way you can help the animals, and reduce the euthanasia rate in the shelter is by fostering a dog or cat who has been surrendered to us. A home environment will help the animals get more socialization and be more adoptable. Fostering is very rewarding and challenging, and all approved expenses are covered by the shelter or the Humane Society. You provide the love.

All foster animals receive their vaccinations, are spayed/neutered, and checked for heartworms prior to being placed in a foster home.

Wish List

Our dogs and cats have a wish list. First and foremost is their own loving home. Other things that can help make their stay with us more pleasant are:

Kong toys, paper towels, bleach, laundry detergent, Dawn dish soap, spray bottles, holiday and seasonal decorations, dog and cat shampoo, grooming supplies, dog and cat toys, blankets and towels, Advantage, Frontline, Capstar or Revolution for any size dog/cat.

Ask us how you can donate towards a "seconds" Kong toy order! We can order Kongs for our dogs at discounted prices but we must have an order of $50. or more.

Another extremely important and effective way you can help the animals in Nacogdoches County is to spay and neuter your pets. There is an explosion of unwanted dogs and cats in Nacogdoches right now and YOU can help reduce those numbers.

When calling the shelter....

When calling the shelter about an animal please have their NUMBER handy as well as their name.

If you have lost a pet, first check our Petfinder site to see if your dog or cat is on our Lost and Found or adoptable list. If he is not, come by the shelter and look for your pet. Your visit is the best chance your companion will have of getting back home to you. If you still have not found him, give us your contact information in case he/she is brought in to the shelter.

New animals come to the shelter daily, so keep checking back.

If are looking for a specific breed, size or temperament of an animal to adopt, please give us your contact information so we can alert you if someone matching your description comes in.

Our goal is to reunite or rehome each and every animal who comes into our care. EVERY dog and EVERY cat deserves a loving home.

How to Adopt a Forever Friend

Our adoption fee for an unaltered dog or cat is $20.00 plus the cost of rabies vaccination and spaying or neutering your new companion. Animals who are already spayed or neutered have a $30 adoption fee and can go home with you the same day. Animals older than 6 months who have not been altered will go to the vet of your choice for surgery where you can pick them up the next day.

You will be required to pay the shelter the cost of the spay/neuter surgery prior to your animal going to the clinic of your choice. You will receive a certificate from us to take to the vets office stating the surgery cost has been covered.

ALL animals under 6 months old who are adopted from the shelter MUST be spayed or neutered by the time they are 6 months old. NO exceptions. This is one way we can get a handle on the pet overpopulation crisis in Nacogdoches County.

Come Visit Us!

We are located at 3211 SW Stallings (aka Loop 224). If you are going south on Loop 224, we are between Hwy 21 West and the Durst St / Lake Nacogdoches Exit. When you see the sign that reads Lake Nacogdoches, we are right after the sign on the right hand side. If you are going north, get on to Loop 224 you will pass the Durst St / Lake Nacogdoches Exit, continue up to the crossover and head back south on Loop 224, again we will be located on the right hand side. Please be very careful crossing over due to traffic.
