Lexi is a spayed 3yr old lab and coonhound mix. She is loving and sweet. Lexi loves to play tug'o'war and chewing on her chew toys. She also enjoys kids and swimming. She does need a home without other dogs.
Please give The Alger County Animal Shelter a call at

Anya is a 1-2 year old long hair tortie. She is shy at first, but loves to be petted and quickly warms up. She hasn't been with us long, but has already found a place in our hearts. She will tolerate other cats, but prefers to do her own thing. She does not like dogs, although as long as they aren't in her face she will tolerate them as well.
Please give The Alger County Animal Shelter a call at
906-387-4131 if you would like to know more about adopting Anya.
We are in need of volunteers. Night time volunteers are needed ASAP. You can pick your own hours at night. Duties include: walking dogs, cleaning cages, scooping litter boxes, food and fresh water for all animals, adoptions, etc. We ask workers to do only as much as they can in the time they have to share with the Shelter. Please contact Marge at Modern Visions is you are interested in becoming a volunteer. We accept donations of all kinds which include: monetary, cat litter, cleaning products, office supplies, used blankets and rugs, etc. If you contribute to NMU'S (WMNU) Public Service Channel and receive PPS Shares, those can be sent to the Shelter and we will send them in for a redemption gift that can be used in a raffle. We need people or groups to hold fundraisers that benefit the Shelter. We publish a newsletter twice a year called "Footnotes and Pawprints". To receive a copy, please send a note to the Shelter requesting a copy and you will be added to our mailing list. We are a non-profit, tax-deductible organization. The Primary purposes of our shelter are to receive lost or unwanted animals brought to the shelter, to return them to their owners or place them in good homes; humanely to dispose of those which cannot be so placed; and to educate the public about intelligent and humane treatment of animals. All animals adopted from the Alger County Animal Shelter must be spayed or neutered for compliance with Michigan law. All potential adopters must fill out an adoption form. If the adoption form is approved, he or she will then take their new pet to the vet of their choice to be altered, if the animal is not already altered. The adopter pays the spay/neuter fee to the Shelter. He or she is given a spay/neuter certificate to take to the vet at the time of the operation. A rabies vaccination is included in the certificate fee. If an animal is already fixed when it comes to the Shelter, the charge will only be $25.00 for the adoption of the animal. The Shelter is not responsible for transportation of pets
to their new owners. New owners must provide their own
transportation. However, please feel free to check with
the Shelter personnel first to find out if anyone would be
willing to take the pet to you or would meet with you part way.
If you have questions regarding transportation,
