~The Story of a Dog with No Name - called Hope~
On Thursday Oct 15Th, 09- Mountain Rottie Rescue received a letter from a very caring & determined woman who had been trying for a very long time to get help for a Rottweiler ( who had been chained, neglected and overlooked For 11 long years ) . She Titled the email :
A Rottweiler with no name ...I call Hope .
" Hi~I need to get help for a Rottweiler in Monorsville, NY. There is a glitch with the laws because there is plastic igloo in the yard. She cannot get into it, due to arthritis, I would assume. Most people who pass her each day laying on the ground for hours, assume she is dead. However, if kids on bikes throw rocks at her, she tries to stand up to escape. Originally, she was chained in thick woods, then when I complained, the police suggested she be moved. The owner then chained her to a tree, near the road...this was just as bad, if not worse.I have made about 50 calls, including the DA and the County Legislator and no one can help...or has their hands tied. However, I think the fact that she is soaked and sick should change the glitch. Please give me any and all thoughts as what to do.I understand that not every dog can be saved, but for 1,000 people a day to pass a house and feel the injustice...yet do nothing...I think it is only right that one person do as much as they can....and not give up on HOPE."
When we received this email , we knew we had to somehow help and called upon our friends at RESCUE INK to help us get her ( because they DONT look the other way !! )
And On Oct 17Th, RESCUE INK went in and saved this Rottweiler from her torture chain.
One of our devoted volunteers Jason drove 10 hours round trip to get Hope & bring her to the Capitol District chapter where 2 of our Dedicated members Tina and Stephanie were waiting for her arrival. Hope was completely shut down , it had been 11 years of life on a chain and this confused and neglected soul had no idea what was happening to her.
Hope was taken to our Vet Dr. Etherington of Greenbush Animal Hospital . for much needed medical care -As she had not been to a vet in 10 years . Hope had mattes in her hair that were so painful to the touch that she screamed when anyone pet her.She had to be sedated so that the mats could be brushed from her fur. She also has hip dysplasia & arthritis & is not a candidate for hip replacement surgery . In addition , she has been diagnosed with Heart-worms & had a ragging urinary tract infection. . Hope has been started on anti inflammatory medications and supplements for her hips so that she can be pain free and more mobile, she is also on medication to treat her UTI ....but her road to recovery has only just begun & she will need to be treated for her Heartworms once she is more stable.
Hope has lived 11 years on a chain , wondering when someone would love her, crying for someone to unchain her and waiting for someone to Help her .
Now that we have Hope in our care , we are committed to making sure her remaining years are pain free , comfortable and happy years . We are committed to paying for Hope's medications for LIFE to make this possible but we do need your help.
We need financial contributions for the " Hope Fund " for her ongoing medical expenses .
and We need a Home for Hope, someplace where she can live out the remaining years of her life with someone who will just love her.
Please help us, Help Hope . Please make a donation today & help us continue to help Hope .We rely on public donations to support our rescue. Every dollar donated goes directly to the dogs in our group , we are a non-profit organization. .We cannot do this alone but "Together we WILL make a difference ..."

Nike's sad story begins on the end of a chain , rescued by Rescue Ink in December of 08 ' Nike was severely emaciated , his eyes were badly infected, he had an embedded chain in his neck, he was heart-worm infected and by the time he was rescued he could barely walk. Nike was taken to Save a Pet in Port Jefferson NY to under go much needed medical care. Given Nike's history of severe neglect and abuse , his emotional state needed some healing as well....and in May 09' Mountain Rottie Rescue was called in to help with his rehabilitation. Nike came into foster care with us & has been undergoing behavior modification with his foster family . When he arrived , he had food & resource guarding issues, he was also distrustful of people due to years of abuse & isolation . Today - Nike has made allot of progess with his food issue through behavior modification & management . He also adores his foster mom.
Nike is still currently under going medical care from his years of neglect . Our Vet Dr . Eiton of Petcare Animal Hospital is treating Nike for his heart-worms & he is recovering nicely ...
Sadly some dogs from his background never get a second chance and their emotional scars are too deep to ever overcome the past ...but Nike has shown us all that with time, patience , work and compassion...there is HOPE.
Continue to watch for further updates on Nike's progress and watch Nike's story unfold on TV this fall on the Nat Geo Show " Rescue Ink Unleashed . " ON Oct 2nd, at 10:00 pm

In memory of Brutus Robertson
R.I.P Jan,1st, 2000 - Jan, 27th, 2009
A letter from Krissie Buckley, President of Mountain Rottie Rescue of NY.
Brutus was the first dog I ever officially rescued. Brutus was living outside in Staten Island , where his owners had banished him after the birth of their child.
Brutus had NEVER shown any aggression towards the child, however, his previous owners still locked him outside simply because he was a Rottweiler !
The owners of Brutus were going to surrender him to a kill shelter where he surely would have never survived. At that time, I was not a rescuer , I was simply someone who owned Rottweilers myself and I heard the sad fate of Brutus through a friend who knew the owners. I felt compelled to try and help this poor dog . It was then I met a woman named Terry Robertson through a wonderful rescuer named Tom Collinsworth (RIP) .
Terry and her husband JR took Brutus into their home and gave him the most wonderful life . It was through Brutus that Terry and I met and decided we wanted to help other Rottweilers in need and on March 17Th, 2002 Majesty Rottweiler Rescue was born . Terry and I rescued many dogs together for many years and in 2006 , Mountain Rottie Rescue of New York originated. It was because of Brutus that 2 Rottweiler Rescues were founded .It is because of Brutus that this orgaization exists today . It is because of Brutus that over the years hundreds of lives were saved and dogs like Brutus were given a second chance ! Very Sadly, on Jan 27th, 2009 - Brutus lost his battle with Cancer and this wonderful angel had to leave this world. However , his legacy will never be forgotten by those who knew and loved him. Thank you Terry and JR of Majesty Rottweiler Rescue for opening your heart and home to this special boy. And a very special "Thank you" to Brutus for opening up my eyes...not only have you changed my life...but the fate of so many others! This ones for you boy......

Some of our dogs are cruelty cases & come from abusive pasts - we offer rehabilitation & training to these dogs and have successfully placed most of our cruelty cases into new loving homes.
All our our dogs are temperament tested before acceptance into our program. Our members consist of Certified Dog Trainers, experienced animal handlers & experienced Rottweiler owners. Any dog adopted from Mountain Rottie Rescue of New York has been fostered in a home prior to adoption. All of our Dogs are up to date on vaccines, Heart-worm tested, on prevention, spayed /neutered, micro-chipped & activated .

THE ANIMALS' SAVIOR
By Jim Willis
I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...
the cast-offs of human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal.
And I was angry.
"God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly.
"I have done something," He replied.
"I created You!"

"Say NO to puppymills and YES to rescue." When you rescue a dog , you are saving a life and giving a very deserving Dog a much needed second chance!!
Sadly MANY dogs are taken to shelters between the age of 5 months to 1 year.
People think they are 'adorable' when they are a small puppy. Then when the dog is
No longer small and cute and the big puppy is going through the natural chewing stage,
they 'get rid of them', like the dog was a 'disposable object' which had no feelings!
Animals do have feelings and are more loyal than most people!
"The average dog is a nicer person than the average person."
-Andy Rooney
"Shelter Rotts"
This short film by Sheila E. was created to give an insight to the plight of the rescue dogs, many of whom come from high kill shelters. This film depicts the happy and sometimes sad endings of shelter Rotts and the most common reasons why these dogs end up in shelters.
(Many Thanks to Sheila E for her creation of this film, Permission has been granted for educational use). Please press play to watch " Shelter Rotts"
*There is an Ancient Legend of the Cherokee Nation:*
Early in creation,
man and animals lived side by side.
But one day the Great Spirit
decided to separate man from the animals by giving man an eternal
soul.
The Great Spirit caused a huge chasm to open in the earth with
man on one side and the animals on the other side.
The chasm grew
wider and wider until, at the very last moment, the dog jumped across
the chasm to stand by man.
"If you talk with the animals they will talk with you and you will know each other. If you do not talk to them you will not know them, and what you do not know you will fear. What one fears, one destroys."~Chief Dan George
"The True Character of the Rottweiler " The Rottweiler which is a misunderstood breed , is one of the most loyal & loving campanions , they make excellent family pets with proper training and socialization. They are also one of best wroking breeds, exceeding in all they do.!!
The Rottweiler , along with many other breeds has sadly fallen on troubled times due to irresposible ownership . There are those who want to BAN our breed , if this happens , this noble, couragous and loving breed will one day cease to exist. Please be a resposible owner and say "NO to BSL" . This short film depicts the true nature of our breed !! Please press play to watch this film.

Rescued Dog
by Arlene Pace
Once I was a lonely dog, just looking for a home.
I had no place to go, no one to call my own.
I wandered up and down the streets, in rain, in heat and snow.
I ate whatever I could find, I was always on the go.
My skin would itch, my feet were sore, my body ached with pain.
And no one stopped to give a pat or to gently say my name.
I never saw a loving glance, I was always on the run,
for people thought that hurting me was really lots of fun.
And then one day I heard a voice so gentle, kind and sweet,
And arms so soft reached down to me and took me off my feet.
"No one again will hurt you was whispered in my ear."
"You'll have a home to call your own where you will know no fear"
"You will be dry, you will be warm, you'll have enough to eat."
"And rest assured that when you sleep, your dreams will all be sweet."
I was afraid I must admit, I've lived so long in fear.
I can't remember when I let a human come so near.
And as she tended to my wounds and bathed and brushed my fur,
she told me about the rescue group and what it meant to her.
She said, "We are a circle, a line that never ends".
"And in the center there is you protected by new friends".
"And all around you are the ones that check the pounds,
And those that share their home after you've been found"
"And all the other folk are searching near and far.
"To find the perfect home for you, where you can be a star".
She said, "There is a family, that's waiting patiently,
and pretty soon we'll find them, just you wait and see".
"And then they'll join our circle they'll help to make it grow,
so there'll be more room for more like you who have no place to go".
I waited very patiently, the day they came and went,
today's the day I thought, my Family will be sent.
Then just when I began to think it wasn't meant to be,
there were people standing there just gazing down at me.
I knew them in a heartbeat, I could tell they felt it too.
They said, "We have been waiting for a special Dog like you.
Now every night I say a prayer to all the Gods that be.
"Thank you for the life I live and all you've given me,
but most of all protect the Dogs in the pound and on the street,
and send a Rescue Person to lift them off their feet".
