DINGO!!


HI THERE! My name is Dingo - aren't I a cutie pie!! My new friends all think so.

One day a really nice lady found me wandering around town. She tried to help me find my home, but we never found it. She was really nice, and wanted to keep me, but she couldn't. So she found me some wonderful new friends who are trying to help me find a forever home.

I've been to see the Doc, and she says I'm heartworm negative. Plus I've had my vaccinations, and I have pearly white teeth -- see? . I'm also scheduled to be spayed in May 2009 (which is pretty soon they tell me).

I love kids, but sometimes I might knock down the little ones by accident -- just 'cause I'm still a baby too & my manners need a little work! I am learning a few manners, plus I'm working on my crate training. I've heard my new friends say I am doing really well for such a youngster. I told 'em I'm a pretty smart cookie! When I'm not working on my lessons, I really like playing with other playful dogs. I also like to give kisses (to anyone I can reach), and I LOVE car rides too!

I have temporary lodgings, though I'm kind of on a short time frame for staying here. So I'm crossing my paws for someone to come along really soon who just HAS to have ME as their VERY OWN!!

MI GSP Rescue is a small yet very "connected" group. We have some of the BEST volunteers between Kansas & Michigan, pulling dogs from shelters, transport driving , fostering, and what ever else they can to help us to get these wonderful dogs to safety. They are a great source of support and help for us. Of course we are always in need of drivers, fosters, and donations.

If you see a dog you're interested in, or have a dog in need, please be patient when contacting us - we will get back to you, but it can take a few days, as we are all busy with the our own lives as well as the dogs. While we are not online daily, we do check email at least once a week, and will respond accordingly. You also can call - evenings are best, and you will need to leave a message for a return call. A note from Terri Doerr of MI GSP Rescue:
I have opened my heart and home to GSP'S in need, by volunteering my personal time, resources, and money to help them. Most needy GSPs come from shelters and pounds from which they often must be rescued immediately and with very short notice to avoid euthanization. Still others come to me from homes where they were not prepared to commit to a dog, let alone an ambitious & outgoing GSP. Most all of these dogs require health care, reconditioning, training, and above all alot of love, patience, and attention. They are in desperate need of a loving and permanent home, a family to belong to, and a purpose in life.

In order to be able to continue our task to help these needy canines, we require help nationwide from people like you. Help can be provided in so many ways and we are always looking for people to help foster these terrific dogs, do animal control patrol for us (so that we know right away when a GSP comes in to a Animal Control), help with home visits, vet reference checks, take digital pictures of the GSP's in need, help with transportation, etc. Monentary donations can be made directly to our vets where we generally have a "standing" rescue bill. Donations can be made to Traveling Vet / 116 W. Knight St. / Eaton Rapids / MI / 48827. Be sure to mark MI GSP Rescue in the memo area or in an included note. Any other items you wish to donate (blankets, beds, etc) can also be shipped to the same address.

Adopting a friend

If you are a warm, loving family that has a home with a fenced yard, and you want a dog to live in your home as a part of your family, then please take some time to look over the dogs that we have listed, read their bios, look into those sweet faces, and see if one of them might be right for you. Since our dogs are on at least their 2nd home, the minimum following criteria must me met before we will place one of our rescues in a home. Please understand that while some may think our criteria is too strick, it only for the safety of the dogs that we put these items in place.

Beginning basic criteria to adopt on of our GSP's is as follows; Prior to being placed in a warm and loving home, all of our dogs are vetted (neutered, fully vaccinated, Heartworm negative and on Heartguard preventative, on Frontline for fleas & tics (during the appropriate seasons), and Avid microchipped,

Since adopting any dog is a lifetime decision and commitment, there are lots of questions that you should ask yourself prior to adopting. If you are wondering if a German Shorthaired Pointer is the right dog for you, then I would suggest going to www.dogwise.com or www.amazon.com, and purchasing Nancy Campbell's book titled; "An Owners Guide To the Pet German Shorthaired Pointer". This is an easy read book that will help you make such an important decision about this lifetime committment of having a dog friend.

German Shorthaired Pointers - GSP's as they are often called -- are not for everyone. While the GSP is a dog that is a loving and loyal family companion, it is also a dog that can be a tireless hunter - one that is versatile enough to hunt any and all game. Lack of research into the breed often leads them to end up in rescue. They require family attention and time. They need a place to run, stretch and think. The GSP is a mentally active as well as physically active sporting breed that is not going to be content to just sit at your side while you are busy all day, just lay on the rug doing nothing, or only go for short walks that are inspiring to you - it will not be to them. GSP's are a fun and humorous breed that bring with them alot of laughs if you have a sense of humor (a must with this breed), as they are a bit of a prankster for laughs and attention. However, they do require MUCH exercise and being with their person/family. Without these very things, GSP's can be come easily bord and result in destructive actions such as barking, constant whining, digging, escaping, and chewing. They are generally great with kids, other dogs, and some with the right training, can even live happily along side a cat - but not always - often cats and other small creatures (small dogs, ferretts, etc) can be seen as prey. Obedience training will also make life with a GSP (or any breed actually) much easier. If you are in need of a recommendation for a good Positive Reinforcement Trainer, just drop me a note, and I will assist you in locating one near you. As with any dog or pet, proper introduction to kids and teaching kids appropriate behavior around dogs in general, is essential. It is NEVER recommended to leave any dog unattended with an infant or small child.
