About Us

Who We Are

We are a non-profit humane society formed in 1984. Our shelter opened in 1994 as a joint program with the county. We are contracted by the county to operate the animal shelter. We rely heavily upon donations from people like you so we can properly care for the stray and unwanted pets in our care. Mitchell County residents need to call us at 828 765 6952 to schedule in unwanted pets. All pets are spayed or neutered before leaving for their new homes. We also assist law enforcement in cruelty investigators, offer low cost spay/neuter programs for the public owned pets, provide in school humane education, and low cost rabies clinics in cooperation with the health department
