WHO WE ARE:

Welcome to the Matagot Mission~Cat Rescue & Sanctuary! We are a small, no-kill cat and kitten rescue & adoption group located in St. Joseph, MO. Kitties that come into our care have a safe & loving home with us for as long as they need. We have limited space, so when you adopt from us, or from most no-kill shelters in general, you are saving two lives...the one you adopt & the one that can now come in.

Cats & kittens come into our care from a variety of places; most were rescued from the streets, many were orphaned kittens that we hand raised & bottle fed, some were saved from shelters, and some came from owners that were no longer willing or able to care for them. There are many ages & types of cats, many different colors, many different personalities...but all desearving of a loving, dedicated, forever family.

WHAT IS A MATAGOT?

"Matagot" is a French word that means "magician cat." Matagots were considered to be very good luck & were said to bring great treasure to their owners - if they were treated with much respect & kindness. I believe that all cats are magical, wonderful, loving creatures that desearve nothing less than our care, respect, & love. Anyone that knows the friendship of a cat is blessed with a great treasure!

ADOPTION INFO:

Our kitties are available to loving, responsible, inside homes only! Vet references are required and there is an adoption contract to be signed. All cats & kittens are spayed or neutered, have tested negative for feline leukemia & FIV, and have been vaccinated before they go to their new homes. We ask for a $75.00 adoption donation for each cat adopted, all of which goes toward the veterinary care of the cats & kittens.

Donations of food, litter, carriers, bowls, litter pans, cages, humane traps, scratching posts, cat toys, kitten formula & bottles, money for vet care, etc. are always welcome, appreciated, & much needed!
