Little Rock Animal Village is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the 2nd and 4th Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 4500 S. Kramer St. (see mapping below to find us)

Animals are not available for rescue until made available by the director of the shelter.

Please remember, LRAS euthanizes animals based on temperament, health, and available space. If there is enough room, no one is put down; however, the animal village is always at full capacity.

Adopting or Rescuing an LRAS animal

It is VERY important to let Animal Services know of your interest in an animal. Out of area adoptions are possible, but adopters must go through a local rescue group. Contact information is listed at the bottom of this page.

Out-of-Area Adoption & Rescue Procedures

If you are out of the area, and are interested in rescuing an animal from LRAS, one of the following local rescue groups would be happy to assist you. Please don't forget to provide the LRAS animal ID number.

The cost to rescue an animal involves the vetting fees, boarding costs (sometimes free fosters are available, or reduced rate boarding), and transportation. The transportation cost depends on where you are located, and can involve a volunteer ground transport, paid ground transport (usually around $125 to the NE US), or air transportation (ask the rescue group that is assisting you for details, but this may be in the range of ~$125 and up).

If you are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, you may be able to pull animals directly from LRAS.

Here are the LRAS requirements:
You must provide LRAS with proof of your organization's 501(c)(3) status.
You must provide LRAS with a copy of your organization's mission statement. It must state that your organization's purpose is to rescue animals from animal shelters.
You must have a local representative (in Pulaski County, Arkansas). If you do not meet these requirements (for example if you do not have non-profit status, or you do not have a local representative in Pulaski County):
You may contact one of the local rescue groups to assist you.
They will want to verify you are a legitimate rescue organization, and discuss the financial aspects of rescuing from LRAS.
Please don't forget to provide the LRAS animal ID number.

Note that for rescue groups as well as adopters, unsterilized animals must be sterilized. There are no exceptions. When Little Rock Animal Services is contacted for rescue, the animal will be schedule for sterilization. The animal can be picked up between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. the date of the sterilization. If a waiver is given the animal must remain in Pulaski County until it is sterilized. Waivers follow the same process, and a vet appointment will be scheduled upon contact from the rescue. A date will be given to return the animal to the Little Rock Animal Village for sterilization.

ADOPTION PROCEDURES

'Date Available' is the date the animal is available for adoption. If the animal is on the website, he/she is probably available and can be visited even if they are not.

Be sure to have the ID number so LRAS will know what animals you are referring to.

Visiting LRAS animals prior to their 'Date Available': You are welcome to visit with the animal you are interested in before his or her available date. You will probably want to take him or her out of the kennel area, and go outside. Please be aware that when they are comfortable in a home, they will relax, and their personality will be different than in the shelter.

When you are ready to adopt the LRAS policy is first come - first serve. You cannot reserve an animal for adoption. The animals can be adopted at 8:00 a.m. on their available date.

It is a state law that an animal can not leave a shelter until sterilized (Arkansas Code 20-19-103 I (1). For animals needing sterilization, they will be altered at the next available time by the LRAS veterinarian. If the animal is too young or sick to be altered, the vet will sign a medical waiver and give a date the animal can be returned to be altered.

Note: $10 of the above amounts cover the LRAS adoption fee.
