WHO WE ARE
Lookin' For Love was founded by me, Thecia Taylor, and is truly a labor of love. I have rescued all of my adult life...it's my all consuming passion and obsession. We rescue primarily from area city/county pounds, taking as many as possible into the rescue program, while trying to help others by networking with other rescues/ rescuers, all over the state, and even the country. Most of these facilities are fairly small, and stay full, to overflowing. Animals housed there are living on borrowed time, and are in desperate need of homes (foster or adoptive), before it is too late for them. They can only be held for a very limited time, as long as space allows, before being euthanized. Please note that, because we stay full with animals rescued from local shelters, WE ARE NOT ABLE TO TAKE IN PETS FOUND BY THE PUBLIC, OR OWNER SURRENDERS. We are happy, however, to courtesy post pictures/info on such pets, in an effort to help rehome them.
Unfortunately, we can't rescue them all...so, there are always many wonderful homeless pets available for adoption at the Aransas County Animal Shelter, located at 872 Airport Road, in Rockport.....please go by and take a look. This facilty is open seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., for viewing of pets, and adoptions. The fee to adopt a pet from this facility is $30, which covers sterilization (spay/neuter), and $15 of which will be refunded upon completion of the sterilization process. Please remember, though, that you should promptly take your newly adopted shelter pet to your vet, for worming, shots, heart worm testing, and a check up, ensure their good health.
WE DO NOT HAVE A FACILITY WHICH OPENS TO THE PUBLIC FOR VIEWING OF OUR PETS. The animals in our program are housed at private residences.

OUR ADOPTION PROCESS

You must be at least 21 years of age to adopt a pet from Lookin' For Love Animal Rescue.

We don't make introductions, prior to the completion of an application and home visit. The reason for this is simple: If our basic requirements for adoption are not met, there is no point in meeting the pet and, we cannot ascertain this until an application has been submitted.
We also require a vet check, if you currently have other pets, to ensure that they are current on vaccines, are on heart worm prevention, and have been sterilized (spayed/neutered). This is a prerequisite to adopting a pet from us. WE DO NOT ADOPT TO HOMES WITH PETS WHO ARE NOT STERILIZED AND/OR ARE NOT CURRENT ON HEARTWORM PREVENTION AND VACCINATIONS.
Following a favorable home visit, the pet is placed in the prospective adoptive home, on a "trial basis" for up to a one week period. This is to ensure that there is a good "fit'" between pet and adoptive family, something that can't usually be ascertained in a brief meeting. If the trial placement goes well, the adoption is finalized with an adoption contract.
Please keep in mind that, while our adoptive process may sound like "jumping through a lot of hoops" to some people, most of our rescued pets have been bounced around for much of their lives, prior to being rescued so, it is our utmost goal to ensure that a pet's adoptive family will be truly be his or her "forever" home and, our process is designed to ensure this, by trying to make the best possible match of pet to person. We are looking for forever homes for our pets where they will be a loved member of the family, living inside with their family, not relegated to a backyard.

OUR ADOPTION FEES

The adoption fees for our pets vary, as adoption fees are based on the amount of veterinary work they have had, at the time of adoption. The adoption fee varies, depending on how much veterinary care the pet required, and ranges from $85 (for pets who only required basic veterinary care (sterilization, shots and negative heart worm testing), to $185, for those requiring additional veterinary treatment (for example, undergoing heart worm treatment). ALL PETS WILL BE STERILIZED PRIOR TO ADOPTION.

WE ADOPT ALL OVER THE STATE OF TEXAS, NOT JUST IN THE IMMEDIATE ROCKPORT AREA. WE DO NOT ADOPT OUT OF STATE. LIMITED TRANSPORT ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE.
