ONLINE APPLICATION:
http://www.worland.com/wyobasset/le-application.htm We ask that you read through it before contacting us on any of the dogs we have listed. Telephone calls are welcome ONLY 72 hours after the application has been sent to us. We do not make placements over the phone. Email inquiries and questions on any of the dogs are certainly welcome and will be answered within 24 hours if possible.

ADOPTING A FRIEND:
Roger Caras said in his book A Dog is Listening, "not all people deserve to be owned by a Basset Hound". We agree with Roger, he was a very wise man. We suggest you read a good book and study the breed before you decide. Are you ready for a dog that drools, sheds almost year round, is stubborn but oh so loving?

BASSET FACTS
Bassets have easygoing temperaments, but they are strong-willed and intelligent and they use these traits to their advantage. They are willing dogs, as long as what you wish of them is what they intended to do in the first place. You must have patience and perseverance to train a basset. If you’re a person who wants a “soldier”, PLEASE,.. choose another breed!

BASSET HOUNDS LOVE TO BE LOVED!!
They need to be part of a family! If a basset is to be left alone during the day, prospective owners should consider another dog or cat to keep him/her company. Bassets do not need a huge yard or a high fence, but their wonderful noses lead them far astray when they are not confined to home or a fenced yard. FOR THIS REASON, THIS RESCUE DOES NOT CONSIDER APPLICATIONS FROM HOMES WITHOUT SECURE FENCES.

BASSETS ARE NOT SMALL DOGS
Their weight generally ranges between 35 to 50 lbs., but there are "large" Bassets weighing in at 65-70 lbs. The breed is prone to obesity, particularly after age four or five so bassets must be fed only a high quality food.

BASSETS DO NOT NEED FUSSY COAT CARE
Because Bassets tend to shed year-round they should be brushed at least weekly. The inside of the ears needs to be cleaned often because heavy ear leather prevents loss of moisture from inside the ear. The outside of the ear will collect more dirt than other dogs will because their ears fall into the water and food bowls and then drag along the ground. Nails are tough. They should be trimmed every two weeks. DON'T FORGET THE YEARLY INNOCULATIONS!! Have your vet do a fecal check twice a year, and talk to your vet about heartworm in your area.

PLACEMENT RESTRICTIONS!!!!!
We do NOT place our bassets more than a three to four hour drive from the foster home they are living in, NOR do we place our Bassets in areas of other active Basset Rescue groups that have dogs needing homes.

VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS:
We are always in need of foster homes, people to do home visits, transporting, and shelter visits in your area. Donations of premium dog food, crates, ear cleaner, medicated shampoos, bleach, comfy blankets, towels etc are always welcome. Monetary donations are always welcome and needed to help the next needy Basset Hound and may be sent to:
