About Us
WELCOME TO SPRING!
Thank you for your continued support of Lizzy's pals. Thanks to you - our adopters, supporters and volunteers - we were able to provide for the needs of 85+ dogs and cats in 2011.
Please note that our address has changed in recent months. To avoid delays in reaching us via the US mail, please use: Lizzy's Lodge, P.O. Box 23, Poolesville, MD 20837-0023
Great News...More dogs have found their new homes and new lives. Leila and Lola are our most recent pals to find their furever homes. Some owners rush home to be with their new dog, some take their dog to work, and others are just laughing more at the antics of their new family member. These Lizzy's Lodge pals have all found the families that will love them and give them the lives they were meant to lead. We are delighted our wonderful dogs are in these new homes, and very grateful to the families that have stepped up for them.
Adoption Events
Join us at PetSmart in the Kentlands, Gaithersburg on Saturdays from Noon to 2:00 pm. We bring different dogs each week so be sure to contact us if there is a particular dog you would like to meet on a particular Saturday and will be sure to bring him/her.
Contact Us
Our e-mail for general information, volunteering or about our events is lizzyslodgepals@yahoo.com .
If, however, you see an animal on our website that grabs your heart, please click the email link on that pets bio page to contact his/her foster parent directly. The foster knows the most about each animal, and would love to tell you all about them. They will also be able to set up a time to meet the pet.
We do our very best to respond to inquiries quickly and efficiently, and we always look forward to hearing from you!! But, please remember that everyone at Lizzy’s Lodge is a volunteer. We all hold regular day jobs and must see to the needs of the pets in our care before responding to email. We ask for your patience if it takes us a day or two to respond to your inquiry. If you don’t have a response within 48 hours, please try to reach us again. Unfortunately, an occasional email has been known to be filtered into our spam folders.
Help Needed - Consider fostering with us
Statistics show that one out of every two animals that enter a shelter doesn’t come out alive. Please help us change this horrible statistic. We are actively recruiting Foster Families to care for our rescued pets on a temporary basis. Lizzy's Lodge proves the vet care and supplies -- You add the Love! If you don’t feel you can commit to a potentially lengthy foster period, please consider being a respite foster. Respite fosters house an animal or two for a very specific period of time (a weekend, a week, etc) to allow a regular, permanent foster to get away for a little R&R. If you are interested in learning more about fostering a pet, please contact us at lizzyslodgepals@yahoo.com.
If you see a pet on our website that you would like to meet, please e-mail the foster parent (on the pet's biography) or lizzyslodgepals@yahoo.com with some information about you and your family, and daytime and evening phone numbers where we can reach you. We like to talk to prospective adopters to tell them what we know about the animal, and discuss how the pet would fit into your family.
We can then arrange to meet at one of our adoption events, or other location; if the meeting goes well, (and the resident pets approve) we ask you to complete an application. Following a home visit for all acceptable applications, we try to make the best match for everyone.
We are a private, all volunteer 501(c)3 organization dedicated to rescuing companion dogs and cats who are at risk of euthanasia in area shelters.
Animals, especially older, healthy ones, may also come to us for re-homing under special circumstances. We bring these animals into our foster homes and give them a chance to get back on their feet; this helps us learn about the animal's temperament and enables us to match the animal to a family or individual in a new home.
Our approach is to provide love and support for both the animal and the family, and to make the best match possible for animal and people. Events are held weekly to introduce our animals to prospective adoptors. All of our animals are spayed or neutered (if age appropriate), brought up to date on required vaccinations and microchipped prior to settlement in a new home. If the animal is too young to be spayed or neutered when adopted, commitments to complete the procedures are required. All available health records are provided to the adopters. Unfortunately, we can only consider adoptions in the Washington DC Metro area as we require home visits prior to placement.
We operate only through the generosity of our donors, past adoptors and friends. Individual animals may be sponsored by donating at their biographies on www.lizzyslodge.petfinder.org.
E-Donations may be made through Network for Good at www.networkforgood.org. Goodsearch and Goodshop (www.goodsearch.org.) will donate to Lizzy's for each internet search or online shopping action through their websites.
As a registered charity through Guidestar, worplace donations may be made through the Combined Federal campaign and/or the United Way of the National capital Area.
Donations by check (snail mail) are also VERY welcome and appreciated. Our address is Lizzy's Lodge, P.O. Box 23, Poolesville, MD 20837-0023.
Volunteers, including foster families are always welcome to contact us for ways they can help us continue our mission. Incorporated in 2006, we are celebrating our 6th anniversary of saving animals; to date more than 500 animals have had a chance at a new life, thanks to those who support Lizzy's Lodge.
Our regular adoption events are held at PetSmart Store in the Kentland's Shopping Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland on Saturdays from noon to 2:00 pm. Due to space constraints, we cannot always bring all the available pets to each event, but will try to have respective fosters bring specific animals if needed.
Please check our events calendar on our website at: www.lizzyslodge.petfinder.org for details about adoption events.
