We are looking for local businesses or individuals to sponsor our pets, which is a great way to help the community. Please contact the shelter about fundraising opportunties. We look forward to any opportunity to get out there in the public! Remember it is a tax deduction.
RECYCLE FOR OUR ANIMALS: Keep your aluminum cans and drop them off at the shelter.
We also recycle empty ink cartridges. It would be great to have all the businesses in the area donate the empty cartridges to us.
We also recycle washing machines, dryers, refrigerators. You may take the appliance to COASTAL RECYCLE on Hwy. 84 and tell them that you are giving the shelter a donation and they will send us a check!
We are always in need of canned cat and kitten food and bags of kitten food. We have many cats and kittens in the shelter now and need food for them. Cleaning supplies such as Clorox Wipes, Mops, Air Freshner, clay cat litter, bleach, paper towels and toliet paper are always in demand. Treats for dogs and cats are enjoyed, and we can use some new cat and dog toys. Office supplies, such as copy paper, #32 ink cartridges, Doghouses(plastic), fencing materials, wood, tin, deep industrial sink, many other items needed.
Going shopping ? Well then, how about going to this website and a portion of what you buy goes directly to the shelter of your choice. Try it today !!!

Liberty Humane Shelter is NOT the same thing as Liberty County Animal Control.>
We share facilities and the common goal of saving animals.>
* Liberty County Animal Control is high-kill and county-run. Their job is a terrible one, and we hate that they must do it. >
If there were more responsible animal owners in Liberty County there would be less animals for them to pick up as strays, and less that would be breeding repeatedly time after time. WE as a community need to take control of this out of control animal population and start spaying and neutering our animals. We also need to be responsible for the pets that so depend on us to care for them. When they get lost, please search for them until they are found. Many people do not even know where their animal goes when they are picked up by animal control.
Do they not know what could happen after 5 days? Please let your family, friends, and neighbors know if they have lost a pet, to look for them, to come out to the shelter and look for them, to bring a picture of them and to come back every day and look for them. Your pet is depending on you to save them. Please help us, help the animal find its owner!
* Liberty Humane Shelter is no-kill. We are non-profit organization and run entirely off of donations. We currently have 7 employees but may add to that soon.We currently are housed at a county maintained site, but hope to build a new facility in the near future. Liberty County Animal Control and Liberty Humane Shelter share the responsibilities of maintenance on the building and share the cost of utilities such as electricity and propane gas. The two facilities also share the responsibilty of cost of feeding and maintaining the animals such as food and cat litter, etc. We receive no other financial aid from the county or any other governmental agencies. WE appreciate the opportunity that Liberty County has extended to us to allow us to save the lives of the animals in Liberty County. We depend on the community to support us through donations, grants from businesses, memberships, and fundraisers for us to pay the basics of our organization. The basics are food for the animals, cleaning supplies,
medication/shots for the animals, propane costs, payroll costs, expenses on the shelter van, vet bills, gasoline for the van and lawnmower,
Every day, Animal Control brings in more animals and every Thursday those same officers euthanize the animals that they have come to care for. Every Thursday morning, Animal Control and the Animal Shelter are united by the heaviness in our hearts for the lives that are being lost. We try to save as many as we can so that there will be less that will die next time..>
If your animal is missing, please do not depend on Petfinder pictures to tell you if animal control has it. Any animal brought into animal control is on limited time (3 to 10 days) and if you wait to check, your loving companion may already be dead. Animal Control is the first place you should check and you should keep checking. Don't depend on a phone call or a microchip. Go look with your own eyes - it is the only way to be certain.Animal controls number is 912-876-9191>
If you have found a stray, you may drop them off at animal control.
If you have lost your pet, please call animal control and go by animal control and leave a picture and a number and call everyday to check, better yet come by everyday to check. Your pet is depending on you!>
If you have an animal cruelty case, please let animal control know of it immediately, Liberty County enforces the animal ordinances and laws.
You can call Animal Control at 912-876-9191

Education about spaying and neutering is another factor of The Liberty Humane Shelter. We work with our local vets and SNAC to make sure that all animals that are adopted from the shelter have been altered. If your animals have not been altered, please contact your vet immediately or a spay/neuter clinic in your area. The Liberty Humane Shelter is a pick up area for a low cost spay neuter clinic from South Carolina, we are trying to do our part to decrease the pet population in our area. Spaying, neutering and responsible guardianship of these animals is vital to saving lives. We cannot do it all. We need your help. We need you to be committed to the animals who depend on you. For more info about spay/neutering please call your veterinarian clinic or SNAC 1-843-645-2500
