Dogs and cats are kept for five days or as long as there is room. If you see a dog or cat that you are interested in, please call the shelter and leave a message ASAP...that includes your phone number. An animal control officer will reply as soon as possible. Adoption fees for Animal Control:
$70 - Female dog/puppy (Free if altered)
$55 - Male dog/puppy (Free if altered)
$60 - Female cat/kitten(Free if altered)
$40 - Male cat/kitten or( Free if altered)
Adoption fee includes the spay or neuter at one of our local veterinarians or through the Pet Mechanics (www.leftoverpets.org/spayneuter) and a rabies vaccine. The animals are "as is" and come with no other vaccines or medical history.
The shelter does not have regular 'open' hours. Please call to make an appt to visit the animals Monday through Friday.
Adoptions are best done around 10am-12 noon and 4pm to 5:30
DIRECTIONS TO THE SHELTER
Stephens County, GA is located on the Georgia/South Carolina border.
From I-85:
Take Highway 17 (Exit 173/Lavonia) west 12 miles to the 17 By-pass (Super Walmart on corner).
Left approx 1.5 miles to first light (Highway 145).
Right on Highway 145 approx. 1 mile to Landfill Circle (Just past the Chevron).
Left. Shelter is first metal building on your right.
From Atlanta via I-985/365/441
Take 985/365/441 north through Gainesville to mile marker 53.
You will see a sign for Highway 17/Toccoa just past the mile marker on the right.
Bear right onto Highway 17. Continue on Highway 17 down the mountain to the third stop light (just over the railroad tracks), which is Highway 145.
Left on Highway 145 about a mile. You will see the shelter (small beige metal building) on your left just past the DOT work garage.
