Adopting A Friend
We have many wonderful animals of all ages and breeds looking for a home. Pet ownership is a big responsibility so please make sure you are ready to care for a pet for the rest of his/her life. This shelter is not a "no-kill" facility.
In order to ensure compliance with Texas State Law, Chapters 826 and 828 of the Health and Safety Code, which require all adopted shelter animals to be vaccinated for rabies and to be sterilized, all pets adopted must be spayed/neutered adoption receive a rabies vaccination within 10 days of adoption. Proof of these procedures MUST be returned to the shelter within 7 days of completion. *Puppies & Kittens: If you have selected an animal younger than four (4) months of age, these procedures are due at 16week of age.
The adopter signs a contract and pays a fee to the City of Lake Dallas of $10. Citizens of Lake Dallas are required to register the pet at an additional cost of $5.

Donations
Donations are always welcome! Kitten and puppy food and kitty litter are always the most needed.
Cash donations are used for the shelter's medical fund. These funds are only used for the medical needs of our animals, including emergency care of sick or injured animals. Monatary donations may be mailed to our P.O. Box and made payable to the City of Lake Dallas-Shelter Medical Fund

Volunteering
We love our volunteers! Volunteering is great way to help the animals at the shelter. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks, including exercising and socializing the animals, cleaning, assisting at adopt a pets and helping to get the word out about our adoptable animals. Volunteers are welcome to help out during regular shelter hours. All volunteers must be 18 years or older. The first step to volunteering is to stop by the City Hall and fill out the Shelter Volunteer Release Form. Then, contact the shelter with what day(s) and time you would like to come in.
