A Little About Ourselves The Lakeside Veterinary Center is located in Laurel, Maryland. Our veterinarian, Jeffrey L. Rhody, DVM, has been practicing veterinary medicine for over twenty-five years. Here at Lakeside Veterinary Center, we treat more than just cats and dogs. We also treat small mammals (like ferrets, hamsters and rabbits), reptiles (such as turtles, snakes and lizards), birds (from parakeets to macaws), and many other species. In July 2008, we started a small adoption program featuring mainly stray kittens in need of good homes. Since then with great pride, we have found many great homes (over 50!) for not just kittens, but the occasional parakeet and puppy. Due to the success of our program, we have been able to expand and even rescue several litters of kittens from local high-kill shelters. |

Adopting a New Friend We are eager to find our kittens good, loving homes! All of our kittens are socialized with children, dogs, and other cats. Our veterinary technicians spend hours socializing these kittens, and often take them home over the weekends. We spend as much time as needed with our kittens because it can take weeks for a frightened kitten to trust and bond with people. We do everything possible to prepare them for life in their new home with you. Our kittens receive the best veterinary care. We treat each of our adoptees as if he/she was one of our own. Dr. Rhody examines every kitten as soon as he/she arrives. If a kitten is sick, he/she is treated immediately. All kittens have tested negative for FeLV/ FIV (feline leukemia virus/ feline immunodeficiency virus). Kittens are checked for fleas and ticks and treated as needed. Each kitten receives two doses of dewormer, Pyrantel pamoate (Strongid), two weeks apart. We also do a fecal flotation test to check for intestinal parasites and treat appropriately. Each adoptee will have at least his/her initial vaccine for feline distemper and upper respiratory viruses. Follow up vaccines, if needed, will need to be performed after adoption at the expense of the adopter. Our kittens are typically NOT spayed or neutered at the time of adoption. We do not spay/ neuter our kittens before they are adopted because of the risk associated with the procedure at such a young age. Our adoption contract requires the kittens to be spayed/ neutered at approximately 6 to 9 months of age. The surgery cost is not included in our adoption fee. Our adoption fee varies but typically is $60. If you wish to visit with a kitten please call 301-498-8387 to let us know so that we may set up an appointment for you. Open visitation hours are available on Wednesdays between the hours of 9am to 11am. Kittens are not always onsite, many are being fostered. Please fill out an adoption application if you are interested in adopting any of our kittens! Completed applications may be emailed, faxed, or dropped off to Lakeside Veterinary Center. Adoption is not contingent upon patronizing Lakeside Veterinary Center for adoptee's health needs; however, all services performed at Lakeside Veterinary Center for our adoptees are discounted 10%. Our adoption contract is available for you to review prior to adoption. Please feel free to email LakesideAdoptions@gmail.com with any questions you may have. |
