The Greater Huntsville Humane Society is dedicated to furthering the humane care and treatment of animals and providing adoption services for the unwanted and homeless.
The Greater Huntsville Humane Society (GHHS) was incorporated in 1969
by 39 charter members as a non-profit, charitable (501)(C)(3) organization.
We operate a no kill shelter shelter for homeless and unwanted pets and conduct an
adoption placement program to place those animals in healthy, loving homes.
We are a privately funded, not-for-profit organization and we receive no government funding.
The GHHS relies solely on donations, fundraisers and adoptions for funding.
To help those that are facing economic difficulties, the GHHS has a community food bank for dogs and cats named Kings Community Kitchen. This food bank was named for a dog that was surrendered last year. King came to us completely emaciated and now thrives through regular feedings and plenty of care.
King’s Community Kitchen was founded to help low-income pet owners keep their pets healthy and happy and to prevent another animal from going hungry. We offer this service to those in need to help them keep their pets from being surrendered and to ensure their pets are well-fed. The GHHS believes this to be an incredibly effective way of saving the lives of pets and keeping them in loving homes.
If you would like to donate food to King’s Community Kitchen, simply bring your unopened bags of dog or cat food to our shelter located at 2812 Johnson Road. You can also make a monetary donation directly to the food bank by visiting our DONATE page and selecting King’s Community Kitchen from the drop down menu. All money received will be used to purchase dog or cat food to keep the pantry supplied at all times.
To qualify for this program, you must provide photo identification and proof of need. King’s Community Kitchen is open Tuesday Saturday from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. Please call in advance to ensure the pantry is amply stocked.
We host a Pet Loss Support group the first Tuesday of each month, for more information visit our events section at www.greaterhuntsvillehumanesociety.org.
If you are dealing with the loss of a pet and need help with the grief process, we invite
you to attend
