Hi! My name is Reba and I'm looking for my Purr-fect Forever Home. Here's some of my story.... My former people dumped me in a farming town where I was very frightened and didn't know where to go or what to do. I got pretty hungry before I finally found a house that put some food out for me. I tried to talk them into keeping me (I'm really quite nice) but they said something about allergies and made me stay outside. Then I got lucky and I went to The Hundred Cat Foundation and got to stay inside someone's house so they could get to know me. Here's what I taught them about myself. I had never played before but now that I "get it" I'm having a grand time playing with jingly balls and fuzzy toy mice. As a matter of fact, my favorite place to play with them is in the bath tub! I also let them know that I'm okay with one or two other cats, but I will hiss at them at first just so they don't think I'm a sissy. If they get too close before I know them well enough I may swat at them. After a few weeks I learned to get along without hissing and I actually liked playing with a younger kitty. I let them know in no uncertain terms that I don't care for dogs. I hiss & spit and sometimes swat at their dog every time he goes by...sure wish he'd notice I'm doing it. And finally I let them know that I really, really, really love people. I love to be petted, I don't mind being picked up and carried, I love to sit near you on the couch or chair (maybe someday I'll get on your lap too) and did I mention I LOVE being petted. Okay, enough about me. How about coming over to Wiscoy for Pets in State College and telling me about you. I'll be hanging out there waiting for you.
News!
The next High Quality, High Volume feral cat spay/neuter clinic will be held on November 21. We will make another small dent in our ever growing wait list for Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR). We thank Dr Deb Smart of Centre Animal Hospital, Dr Tammy Blizzard of State College Vets and Dr Ellen Scholz of All Creatures for helping at our last clinic and we look forward to our first opportunity to work with Dr Renee Calvert of Centre Animal Hospital at our upcoming clinic.
The ability to hold clinics on a monthly basis, or even more frequently, would significantly reduce the increase in the population of stray, feral and un-owned free roaming cats, and that's our goal. Can you help us continue this effort? We invested over $15,000 in equipment and supplies for the first clinic and will need to replace all of the disposable goods for each clinic. Your support is crucial to our ability to continue providing this service. Thank you!

Who We Are
The Hundred Cat Foundation was founded on February 7, 2005 when we undertook the rescue of 100+ abandoned cats from one home. We quickly converted our garage to a shelter and through the generosity of our wonderful community and local rescue organizations who loaned us cages, we were able to begin our rescue. Three months and 121 rescued cats later we were called on to rescue 59 cats from the home of a hoarder. We were able to complete that rescue as well. This clearly told us that there was a need for a group that could handle the rescue of cats when the numbers are too large for our community's existing no-kill rescue organizations to absorb. Since then we have incorporated as a large-scale cat rescue serving Centre County and near-by out of county locations, received our 501(c)3 charity status, and, most importantly, helped over 1200 cats and kittens. We've found loving, forever homes for many of them and spayed or neutered over 200 cats in 2007, 396 cats in 2008 and nearly 200 cats by the end of April in 2009 through our TNR program. Our ability to carry out the next rescue depends on the amount of space we have available so we concentrate on adoptions and are unable to accept individual surrendered cats.
Feed the Ferals Program

Have you ever bought a bag of a new kind of food for
your dear kitty or maybe some cans of a delectable wet
food, only to have her turn up her nose and demand
what she's used to? Please don't throw that opened bag
of food or extra cans away! Through our Trap, Neuter,
Return (TNR) work with feral cats and the incredible
people who care for them, we have seen first hand how
difficult it is for many to feed the kitties in their colony a
healthy diet. We have a few locations in particular that
desperately need assistance. Donations of dry or wet
food to help feed managed colonies would be
appreciated more than you can imagine. We have met
families who could only feed table scraps or perhaps use
some of their food stamps to purchase tuna to feed the
cats. We are doing our best to help these families but in
trying to keep our donation dollars reserved for spaying
and neutering we could really use food donations to
help the kitties live healthier lives. Give us a call or send
an email and we'll be happy to arrange to pick up
leftover (or newly purchased) food from you!

Senior's Corner...
We have several loving senior cats who desperately need to get out of the shelter setting and into a new forever home for their golden years. Please ask about our Seniors for Seniors discount program designed to help curb the financial burden of owning a cat for our area's seniors. We recently placed one of our older cats into the home of a couple in their early 80's. Their daughter wrote soon after the adoption with this to say... "I am so grateful for this. She will be so good for both of them, giving them something to care for, something to get up in the morning for. She will be so spoiled. " And more recently "My mother talks to her like a child, and she consistently meows in reply. I asked her if there is anything that isn't working with her, and she said, no, she is just perfect for them."
Crinkle in her new home.
Our goal is to make the best possible human/cat match that we can and in doing so give an older cat the opportunity to be loved in a forever home and a senior person something to care for and to remind them of how needed they are.
This is Candy....she's just one of many seniors who need a loving home. She's a young senior at about 8 years old. Her favorite activities are lounging in a sunny window and being petted. She would make a wonderful pet for the person looking for a lap cat.
Perry finally found his perfect home and is happily spending his days lounging and being petted by his new people. Doesn't he look happy? Our dream is for all of our rescued cats, young and old, to be as loved as Perry is.
Please check our list of adoptable pets for other seniors awaiting their forever homes.
Adopting a friend
We welcome visitors to see our cats daily, by appointment. Please call or email for directions and to set a mutually convenient time for you to meet our fur-babies.
All potential adopters will be asked to complete an adoption application. The application will assist us in matching you with the perfect cat for your lifestyle and thereby ensure our cats are being placed in the best possible homes to suit their personalities.
Our adoption fee for altered cats is $40. All adult cats are vaccinated and spayed/neutered. The adoption fee for kittens is $25 plus a $25 refundable spay/neuter deposit. Kittens will be wormed and have first vaccination.
Adoption Guidlines:
* Kittens must be at least 6 months old to be adopted into a family with children under 6 years old.
* You must be at least 21 years of age to adopt.
* We do accept second and third applications on an animal.
* Student adoptions to Grad Students only (fostering opportunities available to younger students if your lease allows pets)

TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) Program
What is TNR?
TNR or Trap, Neuter, Return, is the only humane method of effectively reducing the population of feral, stray, and un-owned free roaming cats. TNR is a full management plan in which stray and feral cats already living outdoors in cities, towns and rural areas are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated and spayed or neutered by veterinarians. After a recovery period the cats are returned to their familiar habitat and cared for by volunteers. No more kittens are born and the feral cat population is reduced over time by natural means.
TNR works!
Cat populations are gradually reduced. Nuisance behaviors associated with breeding, such as the yowling of females or the spraying of toms, are virtually eliminated. Disease and malnutrition are greatly reduced. The cats live healthy, safe, and peaceful lives in their territories.
How can I get help with TNR?
Do you know of a colony of feral cats that needs help? The Hundred Cat Foundation will guide you through the TNR process and when possible work side by side with you not only on the original TNR phase but continue to offer support and networking for feral colony management after the colony is stable.
If you are caring for feral cats and are concerned about them having adequate shelter over the winter, please consider making them an insulated shelter as shown below. Feel free to email us for directions, dimensions or any other questions you have. Your shelter should be filled with straw not blankets, towels or pillows because they those items hold moisture & freeze. Straw does not hold the moisture and acts as an insulator.
How Can I Help?
The cats that need help are un-owned, free roaming cats. As such there is no one to cover the cost of neutering & vaccinating the cats. Over 4 years a single un-spayed female, her mate and their offspring, can be expected to be responsible for the birth of thousands of kittens if there is no human intervention.
A $50 donation will spay or neuter and rabies vaccinate one feral cat . Please consider sponsoring a spay or neuter to help reduce the over-population of feral and stray cats. With a $50 donation YOU will have prevented the birth of at least 100 homeless kittens.
Sponsor a spay or neuter
Spay/neuter sponsorship can also be mailed to The Hundred Cat Foundation Inc., PO Box 10, Centre Hall, PA 16828
What else can I do?
We are receiving so many calls for TNR help that we are now recruiting volunteers to watch or check traps, and transport cats. If you would like to be involved in this life saving program please email or call us at: email: HundredCatFdtn@aol.com (814) 206-5423
Barn Homes Wanted
We are in need of barn homes, stables, or other facilities for shy, frightened and semi-feral cats who have not been adopted because so few people will offer them a chance. These wonderful cats are purrr-fect for controlling the mice in your barn or stable. The barn home must agree to care for the cat as a pet. It is a myth that a well fed cat won't perform as a "mouser". It is the instinct of the cat to hunt small rodents, even with a full belly.
The cats are spayed/neutered and vaccinated and will be delivered to your location and acclimated. There is no adoption fee, but donations are gratefully accepted and very much appreciated! Please give us a call or email us for more information on adopting a barn cat (or 2).
Come Visit Us!
We show cats at Petco on the first Sunday of the month from noon to 2:00.
If you'd like to meet all the kitties that are available for adoption, please call at (814) 237-5422 or send an email to HundredCatFdtn@aol.com for directions and to arrange a convenient time. We're looking forward to seeing you!
Our Wish List These are a few items we are in need of for our kitties:
Old Ice chests and coolers. We have found these to make wonderful shelters for feral cats. The appearance does not matter as long as there are no holes. We can also use the styrofoam chests that companies like Omaha Steaks ship their meats in.
Dry cat food and litter We can always use litter and food. Any brand is fine and will be appreciated.
Unused Paws Points found in specially marked packages of Scoop Away. With enough points we can get a free 14lb box of litter. Our shelter uses between 400 and 500 pounds of litter per month.
We would be happy to pick up any of these items or, if you wish, you could drop them off at Petco while we're there on the 1st and 3rd Sunday afternoons of each month, between 2:00 & 4:00. Your help is greatly appreciated!

In memory of my dear friend Bill Pierce. He left this world before The Hundred Cat Foundation was formed but during our many years of friendship he always encouraged me to follow my dream. He dedicated his life to adoption advocacy (of the human nature) and joked that he'd leave the kitties to me. His spirit is always with me giving that little nudge, when needed, to continue the work. I miss you Bill. 6/10/1936-01/13/2004
