Hi Everyone, My name is Aries. I came into the shelter March 2009, I was left abandoned at my previous owners home. Someone cut my ears off and burned my head and face with hot oil. The Animal Control Officers never found my owner or the persons that caused my injuries but they sure have taken good care of me. I spent a week in the hospital to treat my burns and now my hairs is growing back but I will have scars for the rest of my life. I try not to think about my pain and I look forward to being adopted. The veterinarian said that I was a Rat Terrier mix. I have been spayed, I'm heartworm negative and on prevention, I'm up to date with my shots and love playing with other dogs and people. If you are looking for a loyal pet, please contact the shelter for more information.
Our Featured Pet...
Baker came into the shelter on May 2009. He was seriously injured with a broken bone protruding through his leg. He had obviously been hit by a car and no one assisted his injuries. Due to the infection and location of the bad break we had to have his leg amputated. While he was in surgery we also had him neutered. He is doing really good now and is ready for his new forever home.

Kaylee was taken from a hoarders house. The living conditions of the poor cats was horrific. Kaylee was the only kitten taken and the only one that was tame enough to be rehabilitated and saved for adoption. We have started her shots, she is feline leukemia negative, feline aids negative and will be spayed in October 2009. If you are interested in KayLee, let us know, we'll be glad to see her get a new home.br>
Thousands of animals die each year in animal shelters because irresponsible owners neglect them, let them breed, or just decide they no longer want their animals. Owning a pet is a lifetime commitment. Our adoption program is designed to ensure the placement of our animals into permanent, responsible homes. Our adoption procedure and our screening process is very thorough. We make every effort possible to correctly match animal and human so as to not subject the animal to further rejection or abandonment.
THE ANIMAL SAVIOR
I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter…the cast-offs of human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal,
Sadness and betrayal, and I was angry.
“GOD,” I said, “this is terrible! Why don’t you do something?”
GOD was silent for a moment, and then he replied softly,
“I have done something,” he replied.
“I CREATED YOU!”
ADOPTING A FRIEND
Our adoption policies have been instituted to make placements that are compatible for the pet and the adopter. The successful adoption of a new pet into a household must be guided by more consideration and insight than what is provided by a set of adoption policies and guidelines. This requires careful interviewing of each adoption applicant, personal acquaintance with the animals available for adoption, the exercise of discretion and good judgment in evaluating each situation. Because gray areas do exist, we encourage the adoption counselors to consult with a supervisor or management when in doubt. The welfare of the animal is always considered first and foremost; we do not want to compound inherent animal related problems through ill-advised adoptions. The adoption process includes application approval and at least a 24-72 hour waiting period before a pet can be taken home. Veterinarian references will be checked. Home visits may be required as well in order to check your fencing.
OUR ADOPTION FEES ARE: DOGS--$75.00, which includes current shots/test (rabies) and spay/neuter. CATS--*SPECIAL PRICING*2 cats for the price of one $65.00, which includes current shots/test (feline Leuk/FIV) (rabies) and spay/neuter.
We know how excited and anxious you are to adopt your new pet. We know it is hard to understand why the adoption process is so lengthy and may seem cumbersome to you. We know it is hard to understand why it can take awhile to get your call returned or your application processed immediately and we apologize for the inconvenience. We ask that you be patient and understand that we are VOLUNTEERS that receive more request, phone calls, applications, and emails than we can possibly return in one day. Please remember that we have families and pets that sometimes get sick and need our time as well. Almost always, we receive applications for the same dog or cat. In this case, we try to make the best possible match based on the information we have gotten during the application process. Sometimes the animal you’re applying for might already have an application pending or may actually “fit” better in a different applicant’s home. In this case, we will try to notify you as soon as possible and you may choose to consider another available animal or continue with the process for “pre-approval” on a future dog that becomes available.
Animal Services and HSEA are proud to be the host of the Arkansas for Animals Mobile Surgical Hospital. We are the only city/town in Crittenden County to provide this service to the county citizens that might otherwise not receive any veterinary services for their pets. We have been providing this service several times a year for the past Ten (10) years.
Due to this program, we have spayed and neutered hundreds of animals that would have been allowed to reproduce and cause overpopulation of animals to enter into an already full shelter. Please call the shelter at (870) 732-7599 if you would like more information about this service provided for the public and a substantial savings for sterilization.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close
to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for al of our special friends so
they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends
are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health
and vigor, those who were hurt or maimed are made whole
and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of
days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them,
who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and
looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him
faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend
Finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face;
your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more
