Adoption Fee
The adoption fee is $100* for dogs and cats (any age). This fee includes:
- Spay/neuter surgery
- Microchipping (only for animals adopted from Conroe Center)
- Heartworm, feline immunodeficiency virus, and feline leukemia tests on pets old enough to benefit from testing
- First round of vaccinations and deworming
- Bath and defleaing
- One month of free pet insurance
- Free initial veterinarian health check within 10 days of adoption
- Free goodie bag (only for animals adopted from Conroe Center)
*All pets adopted through HSMC are required by law to be spayed or neutered as soon as they are
the appropriate age. If a puppy or kitten you are adopting is not old enough to be spayed
or neutered, you will be charged an additional $50 refundable deposit. You will be required to
sign a contract stating that you will either return the pet to HSMC on a specific date for the surgery
or arrange for the surgery by your own veterinarian. Once the surgery is complete
and HSMC has evidence of the completion, the $50 deposit will be mailed to you. Failure to have
the animal spayed or neutered will result in forfeiture of the deposit.
Health Guarantee
All pets adopted from the HSMC have a 10-day health guarantee in the event
staff is not aware of existing health problems. At the time of the adoption, you
will be given a list of area veterinarians who have committed to provide free
wellness exams to all HSMC adopted animals. Any required medical treatment will
be at the adopter's expense. Within 10 days, animals with health problems may be
returned and exchanged for another animal or the adopter may request a refund.
Other Pets in Household
If you already have pets in your home, please bring proof that all
animals are current on vaccinations or have the name and phone number of your
veterinarian available. Confirmation of current vaccinations is REQUIRED before
an adoption can be finalized. This is to ensure the safe health of ALL the
animals.

Donations may be dropped off at our Conroe Center during business hours. We request Nutro, Science Diet or any other high-quality
pet food. Many animals come to us poorly nourished, and we have found
that a high-quality pet food helps them regain good health. Items in BOLD are always needed.
