About Us The Howard County Cat Club is dedicated to keeping cats out of shelters because we believe that no cat deserves to live in a cage, or to be put to death because it is no longer wanted or in the way. Because we want cats and their people to live in "purrfect" harmony, we provide free behavior consultations by email and telephone. We also help people place their no-longer-wanted cats in loving new homes, foster cats who have nowhere else to go, and assist feral colony caretakers with Trap/Neuter/Return. We invite you to visit our Web site to learn more about us and read our behavior solutions online.
Foster Homes Help Us Save Cats We sometimes need foster homes for adult cats who cannot stay with their families until they find new homes and would not do well in our group home. Our cats are all neutered/spayed, tested for feline leukemia/FIV and have current vaccinations. Fostering is rewarding and fun. And yes, you will be able to part with your foster when the perfect "forever family" comes along! Ask us for more information.
Adopting a friend We strive to make matches that will last a lifetime. We want our cats to live happily ever after in their forever homes, so we screen carefully; have an application, contract and adoption fee; and make preadoption home visits.
We doadopt to safe, responsible indoor/outdoor homes.
Please don't declaw our cats! Declawing can cause many more problems than it solves.
Indoor/Outdoor Cats Many of our cats are in search of indoor/outdoor homes. That means they live indoors but enjoy some outdoor time in the fresh air and sunshine. Most indoor/outdoor cats are content to hang out in their own backyards chasing bugs, climbing trees and lounging on their patios and decks. They do not roam the neighborhood, stay away for days at a time or annoy the neighbors. We believe strongly that all cats benefit from some outdoor time. Ask us how to leash train a cat, build an outdoor enclosure or put a containment system on top of your fence.
Give-Up Policies Leaving familiar surroundings is very traumatic for cats because they prize their territory above all else. So we urge you to try to resolve any differences you and your cat have so you can stay together. If that is not possible, we will work with you to find a new home for your cat. All we ask is that you make every effort to...
-- Keep the cat until we find a new home. If that is absolutely impossible, we will attempt to place the cat in a foster home or our group home. However, foster homes are hard to find, and our group home is almost always full..
-- Provide a picture of the cat so we can advertise him here.
-- Bring your cat to our adoption days every Sunday at the Columbia PetCo, or make the cat available to us so we can bring him.
-- Keep in touch with us so we know whether the cat will be attending adoption days. We also appreciate knowing if you adopt the cat on your own or through another rescue.
Before we can help you with adoption, your cat... -- Must be neutered/spayed
-- Must have current vaccinations
-- Must be tested for feline leukemia and FIV. While we will help find homes for positive cats, we cannot place them in foster homes.
If you and your cat aren't getting along, we urge you to seek solutions to your feline friend's behavior problems. If it's impossible for you to keep your cat, please make every effort to find a loving, responsible family to give your cat a new home. Or write to us: We can help.
