Heartland LGD Rescue offers service to the states of Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas. We try to help out an occasional dog in need from Texas, as well.
We are a small LGD rescue group that specializes in rehoming and re-training Livestock Guardian breeds, such as the Anatolian Shepherd, Akbash Dog, Great Pyrenees, Komondor, Tibetan Mastiff, Maremma, Caucasian Ovtcharka, and others.
Heartland's foster homes and volunteer base are comprised of experienced livestock ranchers, and working LGD owners.
Our goals are to rescue dogs of these various LGD breeds, evaluate their temperament and character, introduce them to livestock, then re-evaluate their potential as a working LGD.
We then place them into approved working homes that are best suited for their needs, and who will guide and assist them in their new career as an LGD.
We do occasionally place rescue dogs into companion homes, but only after it is clear that they are not compatible with livestock.
We do not adopt out intact animals, and all interested parties MUST fill out an adoption application, and go thru a screening process.
Heartland LGD Rescue members are quite serious about keeping these dogs true to their ancestry, and in working homes where their instincts can be used to an advantage. If you are serious about adopting an unwanted dog to guard your flock or herd, then please contact us immediately. We have started pups and working adult dogs available.
Potential adopters must fill out an application. No adoptions will be considered without this. We value your interest, and wish to match you with the very best dog we have available. Adoption fees vary slightly, according to age of dog, experience, and vetting expenses incurred.
