10/14/09 - Dear Friends and Family of OLBH, As we are reminded daily, almost hourly, we are all facing difficult economic times. OLBH has been fortunate to have steady support from the friends and family of our furry kids and the support of various corporate sponsors / partners who have been an invaluable provider of critical supplies such as food and medicines. Unfortunately, some of OLBH's corporate sponsors/ partners are re-evaluating their donation programs and have significantly cut back their supply to organizations such as OLBH. As I write to you today, one of our most generous and stable supply sources has become almost non-existent - with winter weather looming it is critical to get our food supply in a position to carry us through difficult weather and through periods when we are difficult to get to. I, along with some of the volunteers, are working with area distributors to try to secure food supply at a steeply discounted price; however, as you know with the septic and other state requirements, money is precious and tight but obviously feeding these furry kids is a top priority -- they get just a little cranky if we don't :) -- So how do we proceed and how can you help? Glad you asked! We are running a "food drive" through the end of October -- the most beneficial way to participate would be to donate through our website www.heaven.petfinder.org and designate your donation to "food drive". This will ensure that we get appropriate food at a beneficial cost -- streeetching your valuable donation dollars as much as possible. So, can you spare $10, $20 maybe even a bit more? We are dangerously low on food at this time. All the furry residents of OLBH thank you for your continued love and support!
UPDATE 7/25/2009 - We are still holding fund raisers and begging for donations to raise the money needed to meet the states requirements. Not only are we required to have a seperate septic installed for the rescue facility we must also build roofs over all of our outdoor runs and cement them w/drainage to the septic. Our total cost will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $36,000 and we are not half way there yet. PLEASE help. Donations of any size will move us closer to this goal and allow us to continue the mission at hand of saving the lives of these furry kids that society so easily discards.
PRESS RELEASE 5/21/2009 - Our Lil' Bit of Heaven Animal Rescue and Sanctuary is facing a possible Cease and Desist Order unless we can raise the funds ($20K) to install a mound septic system required by the State Board of Health. The rescue was looking into a less expensive holding tank but was told this morning that we are considered a "commercial entity" and must install the more expensive septic system that will be outlined by the state.
The rescue relocated to Poland , Indiana after the June 2008 floods destroyed the rescue previously located in Martinsville . Thanks to many wonderful volunteers all of the animals were saved from the flood waters and now nearly a year later they are at risk of losing their lives again.
Currently the rescue houses and finds permanent homes for those dogs discarded by society. The current economic crisis has caused overcrowding in many rescues and shelters.. The rescue often referred to as “OLBH” is a non kill rescue and sanctuary and does not receive government funding. If “OLBH” were forced to close countless dogs would be without a place to call home and without anywhere to go facing the worst. This rescue keeps dogs safe, off the streets and out of government run establishments until they are safely placed in permanent homes. This rescue doesn’t cost tax payers anything and has saved hundreds of dogs over the past several years.
Please help by donating, every amount regardless of size helps us get closer to our goal.
