PRESS RELEASE 5/21/2009 - Our Lil' Bit of Heaven Animal Rescue and Sanctuary is facing a possible Cease and Desist Order unless we can raise the funds ($10 - $15K) to install a mound septic system required by the State Board of Health. The rescue was looking into a less expensive holding tank but was told this morning that we are considered a "commercial entity" and must install the more expensive septic system that will be outlined by the state.

The rescue relocated to Poland , Indiana after the June 2008 floods destroyed the rescue previously located in Martinsville . Thanks to many wonderful volunteers all of the animals were saved from the flood waters and now nearly a year later they are at risk of losing their lives again.

Currently the rescue houses and finds permanent homes for those dogs discarded by society. The current economic crisis has caused overcrowding in many rescues and shelters.. The rescue often referred to as “OLBH” is a non kill rescue and sanctuary and does not receive government funding. If “OLBH” were forced to close countless dogs would be without a place to call home and without anywhere to go facing the worst. This rescue keeps dogs safe, off the streets and out of government run establishments until they are safely placed in permanent homes. This rescue doesn’t cost tax payers anything and has saved hundreds of dogs over the past several years.

Who We Are

We are a 501(c)3 (tax deductible) animal rescue who is dedicated to ending the senseless killing of animals who have been discarded by society. We accept owner surrenders to prevent the animal from going to the shelters and bring home those who were tossed out to fend for themselves. All of these dogs remain safe at our farm until we find their forever homes!

Adopting a friend

Upon arrival to OLBH all of our animals are spayed or neutered, heartworm tested, fecal tested, wormed, receive age appropriate vaccinations and a complete physical exam by our veterinarian. They are safer tested and placed on a monthly heartworm/flea/tic preventative. Each of them are kept up to date on vaccines and any other medical care they may require while they are here with us. Once you've found your new furry family member, we require an adoption application be completed, please request the application via our email address. The application is reviewed, references are contacted and then you are approved or denied. If your application is approved a pre-adoption exam is scheduled with our veterinarian (depending upon the length of time the kid has been with us) and a home visit is schedule with you and your family to ensure our girls/boys are going to safe environment and the right one for their individual personalities. The adoptee is brought along to the home visit and if everything falls into place they get to stay with their new family. The base adoption fee $150 (some adoption fees may be higher depending upon the medical care the canine has had to receive to become healthy) is due at that time and an adoption contract between yourself and our facility will be completed. All of their medical paperwork, Shelter Care Insurance information, tags and the following months application of preventatives will also be provided.

Come Visit Us!

We require that you email ahead and schedule a time to visit all of our kids. We are available for appointments every day and are willing to work around your schedule to assist you in meeting them.

Please understand that this rescue is a one woman mission with a handful of faithful volunteers. So be patient and diligent. When you find someone you are interested in visiting I cannot stress enough EMAIL. One of my volunteers checks the emails faithfully and responds to work with you on setting up visiting times, answer questions etc. Phone messages sometimes do not get returned for a day or two and these furry kids aren't put on hold. Our purpose is to get them out of harms way and into loving forever homes asap. There are always always always so many more hurting and in need that we can help by having room available.

Rescue Needs

Our adoption fees cover just what it cost to get the animal spay/neutered, heartworm tested, fecal test, vaccinated, microchipped and started on their heartworm preventative and flea/tic/mosquito preventative. Everything else comes out of our pocket so you can see why donations are so very very important to us.
