Hazens Haven For Small Dogs
Updated July 29, 2003
Our rescue strongly supports spay/neuter programs as we feel this will lead our nation closer to the day that the escalating statistics of animals that end up homeless, unwanted and in desperate situations takes a turn for the better. Our adoption program selects families carefully. We look forward to staying in touch with all of our adoptive families after placement. This helps to ensure a positive placement, and it is important for us to know that our placed companions are continuously being cared for in a manner which is not only acceptable, but exceedingly so.
*Dogs We Will Never Get to Know*
The tragically high rate of dog euthanasia is startling. Local shelters simply cannot handle the massive number of lost dogs, abandoned dogs, and give up dogs. The numbers of dogs killed each year by euthanasia are difficult to obtain. An estimate for HEALTHY dogs destroyed is between 4-8 MILLION per year in the United States. Shelter kill percentages are "average" at 60-75%. This means that approx 60-75 animals per 100 that arrive at an animal shelter will be euthanized. It is difficult to comprehend this staggering figure.
*Who We Are*
Hazen's Haven is a group of hard-working volunteers who are dedicated to creating a "safe Haven" for all of the rescued companions that are welcomed into Hazen's Haven For Small Dogs rescue program. Our rescue brings in those small dog companions that will not exceed 20 lbs at maturity. We foster, seek rehabilitative services as needed, and through a thorough screening program, find adoptive homes that will provide only the very best care, and that will be able and willing to make a permanent commitment to any rescued companion that may become a member of their households. We also welcome opportunities to network with other ethical companion animal rescue and shelters for the benefit of any animal in need. Rather these needs be met through transport, home-checks, etc...we are ready and willing to help as much as feasibly possible.
