Who We Are
Happy Endings is a stopping point for dogs on their way out of high kill shelters and into forever homes.
Millions of dogs die each year in county shelters and on the streets. Happy Endings works with all Ohio County Shelters, Humane Societies, and other rescues to try and save as many lives as we can. Unfortunately we can't save them all, but with your help and support we can make a difference.
Adopting a new friend
WE DO NOT ADOPT OUT OF THE STATE OF OHIO
**If you have not done so yet, please fill out an application for adoption. That is the first step in the adoption process. We don't make appointments to meet our pets until you have an approved application. That keeps you from wasting your time as well as ours in the event your application should not be approved or the puppy/dog you are interested already has an approved home.
**We do not have a shelter. If you have been approved for adoption an appointment will be made for you to meet the pet you are interested in. We will either bring them to your home or meet you at a mutual location if you are not close to us. If you have no vet reference or we feel it's necessary we may require a home visit.
**After meeting you and you have had an opportunity to interact with the dog/puppy we reserve the right to deny your pending adoption. Our goal is to place our pets in the best possible home for them and there has been many occasions when a dog is telling us that they don't care for a particular person. We never send a dog to a home we are not certain they will fit into. We also don't ever expect an adoptive family to take a dog/puppy they are not 100% sure of. You are never obligated to take any pet unless you are positive that is the one......and the dog/puppy chooses you also.
**We do not call long distance nor do we have time to call you unless your application has been approved. It might be easier for you to contact us by phone and ask all of your questions, but it is not easier for us. If you have questions that are not answered in the pet notes, on this page, or our main website, please send us an email.
** Please understand we have very little staff and don't have time to answer general questions that can be answered by reading this information. We do not respond to emails that are asking things that are already noted on this site or in the pet notes of the dog/puppy you are looking at. If you have sent us an email and it has not been answered, it may be because your question has already been answered somewhere on this site or by following links provided. If you feel you have asked a question that we should be answering and have not gotten a response within 24 hours it is likely because we have not received your email. Some spam blockers kick back certain emails for no apparent reason. This may have happened to you.
** If you have filled out an application and not heard back you are most welcome to email and ask about the status of your application. We often have dozens(or more) applications on a particular dog/puppy and don't have time to email everyone to tell them if they have not been approved.
** If your application is not approved for a particular dog/puppy, but has been approved for adoption we will let you know if we get in similar breeds or will offer a choice of another dog/puppy we have in rescue that you might be interested in. All applications are not approved.
Surrendering your pet
Happy Endings occasionally will accept owner surrenders depending on the circumstances and available foster space, but our main goal is to help those in shelters with no other option than to go into rescue. These animals are likely to die if we don't make space for them.
If you feel you can no longer keep your dog because of behaviorial issues, please consider contacting a professional for help before you give up on your dog. It is understandable when there are children involved to want to remove a dog from the home if there is potential for harm to come to the children, but issues of housebreaking, poor manners, and other problems can be overcome with some patience and proper guidance.
If we can not help you by taking in your dog or offering you training help, we will be happy to list your dog for adoption or try to refer you to another rescue. If we list your dog as a courtesy, the dog must be up to date on vaccinations and altered. All applications will be forwarded directly to you and be your responsibility to follow up with calls to references. We hope by offering you a screening process you will consider your dog's new home carefully.
We do not have a foster for cats and unfortunately most cat rescues as well as Humane Societies and the APL are full and will likely not be able to take in your cat. Please have your cat spayed or neutered before you place him/her so that you know that there will be no more unwanted kittens born to your cat. We will be happy to list your cat/kitten for adoption but will not be able to take them in.
We have a foster who can take in unwanted birds as they have space. They have experience with tropical and large exotic birds and could offer you advice if you are willing to work through any issues you might have that would cause you to consider surrendering your bird.
We have a foster that can take in reptiles and some fish if they have space available.
We have a foster who is able to take in most farm animals and especially barn animals such as goats, sheep, horses, cows, and even llamas. A small donation of cash or feed is asked when surrendering farm animals
Click the link below to enjoy a free sample of greenies. For each person who signs up, the company will give us a donation for our spay and neuter program. I hope you will spread the word and help our rescue. Thanks.
