Monte came into H.E.A.R. almost 6 months ago, he was extremely underweight and had favored his right rear hip from either being hit by a car or someone had hit him with a bat. He was also very fearful of humans and defensive. Once he got here we just gave him time to come around, I would let him play with our very friendly dogs who loved to be sociable and also liked people and over time Monte's leg began to heal and he came around and started to play again. I also introduced him to the puppies and he was very gentle with them. Monte has proven to be a wonderful dog who's personality has finally come out and he can be himself who loves to be around other animals and people. If Monte would of been turned over to the Pound or the Humane Society of Nashville they would of NOT spent the time he needed to come around. But, at H.E.A.R. he did get that time and I now feel he will make a wonderful family pet when he finds his new forever home.
Monte was lucky, because he got the chance to come to H.E.A.R. and heal his wounds. We have to turn away many dogs who need help just like Monte, but with our limited funds we can only take in so many.
This is a Sad Reality that most people only want the cute friendly ball chasing
well mannered perfect dogs. Not many want those that truly need help.

I have Started Framing out the Hydro Therapy Spa as you can see and things are progressing along. I hope to complete the Framing and starting on laying the Ceramic Tile in a few days.

Next Project after the Hydro Therapy Pool will be to build Fort H.E.A.R. - a Jungle Jim Set that is for K9's. It will be 3 stories tall and will have things that the dogs can climb up, go through or go under with plenty of resting spots and shade for afternoon naps. It will also have a wading pool and water slide for them to enjoy on hot days.
This Project could run as high as $3,000 just in Materials. So you can see how Important it is that you Continue to Support H.E.A.R.
There is many projects coming up in the future to make life more enjoyable for the dogs at H.E.A.R. while they wait for their forever home to be found.
With your Donations, this can all happen.

All Pets must reside INSIDE your home and be allowed to be part of the family. If your looking for a dog to be a permanent outside fixture to your home, this is not the Rescue you should Adopt from. Are dogs that we Rescue are retrained to be pets that we spend a lot of time with and they love to be with people. To take a dog that has been trained this way and keep it outside will make them depressed and not a happy dog. We strive to find the perfect family for each of our dogs where they will be treated like part of the family and included in most all family functions.
We also require you to Fill Out an Adoption Application Form with Vet References which is checked out before considering the Adoption. You must also allow follow up visits to see the dog and how they are adapting in to their new forever home.
Many ask why we don't Adopt out of area or other States. Please understand that every dog has their own personality. Why would you want to drive 500 miles and Adopt a Dog you don't even know if you, your family or the Dog will all get along. That is why we only Adopt out locally. If for any reason the Adoption isn't going well and you feel the Adoption isn't going to work. H.E.A.R. will be happy to take the Dog back for any reason and refund your Adoption fee up to 30 days from the Adoption Date. After the 30 days are up and you still want to return the Dog, we will still take back any H.E.A.R. Dog. We have found from past experiences that when someone Adopts a dog and traveled a long distance to do the Adoption, will not take the time to return the Dog to that Rescue, but will just turn the Dog over to their local Animal Control Facility where the Dog is usually Euthanized. (This has happened to H.E.A.R. in the past.) That is the main reason we no longer Adopt out of our Area. H.E.A.R. values each Dog's life and if for some reason an Adoption isn't working, it's much easier to just contact H.E.A.R. and in many cases we can drive over and pick up the Dog and bring them back to the Rescue. Not every Adoption goes well. It takes time and patients to find the right home for both the family and the Dog.

We figure it costs around $150 to get a dog ready for adoption, plus how many months they are here before they got adopted. The average dog is here 3 to 6 months so you can figure we are into each dog around $500 before it gets adopted out and if you take our current adoption fee of $100.00 we lose money every time we do an adoption.
On the Average we only do 2-4 adoptions each month. So you can see, the adoption fee we collect doesn't even come close to covering all our normal expenses each month (which run around $2,500 a month) to keep these doors open. It's not cheap to save a Dogs Life. So to make up for this, we have to ask for Donations to help cover our Loses each Month.
We also use the Donations to finish the fencing around the Rescue, finish up the inside areas to give each dog their own sleeping quarters, painting and so much more. It also goes to Vet care when a dog needs Medical Attention or we have to get them Spayed or Neutered. We are an all Volunteer Rescue and no one collects a pay check. This Rescue is about 80% done, please help us finish with your Contributions, so we can continue to do what we have done for the last 10 years. Saving the Homeless, Abandoned and Abused Dogs of Nashville.

Where will they go if we are not here to help them?

We also assist the elderly and handicap people on fixed incomes with pets who can't afford to feed their pets and could possibly surrender them to the pound if they couldn't feed them. We assist these people by giving them dog food, cat food or cat liter to take the financial pressure off of feeding them and just give their pets the love they deserve.
We also help other Rescues who come up short each month when it comes to feeding the animals in their care. Over the years we have become a warehouse for broken bags of dog food that grocery stores accumulate and instead of throwing them in the trash, they call us and donate them to us. We receive more than we can use each month, so we are happy to share this food with those that need it most.
If you know of someone who falls under these categories and have financial problems feeding their pets, let them know of our "Feed Our Pets Program" and lets get them the food they need to care for their pets...
When you make a Donation - it helps us pay the gas to get this much needed dog food, cat food and cat liter to the elderly and handicap people on fixed incomes with pets.

It's an Animal Rescuers responsibility to show this animal that not all humans are bad people and slowly build up their confidence to trust humans again and when they are ready, we locate a loving forever home they will go to and be loved for the rest of their lives.
I never asked for this job, but here it is, I am an Animal Rescuer. I do the best I can, I have saved many, I have lost a few. I have cried over a dog I never knew and buried more than I want to count. I remember everyone of their names and their personality.
One of the few joys I get is when people and families send me pictures and letters of the dogs they have adopted from here. Thanking me for saving them and how much joy, laughter and love they have given to their families. This is what makes it all worth while.
Helping animals comes slow at first. You see one on the road or walking alone with their ribs showing from not eating. You decide to help one, you bring them back to health, you find them a loving home and you see how good it makes you feel that you saved a life.
Then two more come knocking, you help those two and four more come knocking. It's a battle we will never win, but as long as we save a few, those few will know they were saved and become loving happy family pets. We in the Rescue Business are doing a job you would never do, even though you love animals. Some just don't have the heart. You have to take the bad with the good.
When you have seen some of the dogs that I have seen over the years, you sometimes want to take their X owners and give them just ONE day in the life of a dog they had, but then I would be arrested for being in-humane...
