Our Featured Special Needs Danes -- Please Open Your Heart to Help or Adopt

Donate to our Medical Fund

Meet Max. After spending an abusive first year of his life with a cold steel chain around his neck, he spent the next year of his life in a shelter. He bloated in that shelter. After coming to us, we noticed Max had difficulty gaining & keeping on weight. After medical assessments, we discovered a problem with the surgery done in that shetlter -- probably by inexperienced trainees. Described as a fatal bloat waiting to happen again, our option for him to live was surgery. That surgery was followed by complications requiring another emergency surgery.

You may wonder why we fought so hard to save Max. Remember, this is what we do. This is the story of rescue. A dog who had been through hell in his life deserved a chance to know love, warmth, food, and a home of his own.

Please consider a donation to Max's medical fund so that we help other Danes experience love and a better life. Read More about Max on our site http://www.greatdanefriends.com

Who We Are

Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love is a sister chapter to Ruff Love Rescue in Thomasville, NC (www.ruffloverescue.com). Great Dane Friends is an all volunteer group of dane lovers who are dedicated to saving Great Danes and other breeds/mixes, even if they have special needs or health problems. Many rescues pass over dogs with special needs or those that would be considered too expensive to help out. We take these dogs in, find them wonderful, loving homes and give them a second chance.

Each dog in our program is in a foster home. This provides us a chance to evaluate the dog, attend to any medical needs, teach basic manners & give them lots of love before they are adopted to you. This is a win-win for everyone! We do our best to match the dog to the family that best meets the dog's needs!

Volunteer! Foster! Donate!

We are always need volunteers and foster homes for our dogs. A fenced yard is required to be a foster home however we do make exceptions on a case by case basis. We require that foster dogs live inside your house. You would be responsible for feeding them, keeping them safe, clean and helping them learn to be good pets. We may ask you to take them to the vet for care, but we pay all vet expenses for our dogs. We schedule adoption fairs and fund raising events often. It would be great if you could bring your foster dog(s) to these events for exposure and socialization, but it's not required. Please contact us using the email address or the phone number below if you are interested in becoming a foster parent.

If you would like to help, but feel that fostering isn't the right position for you, there is plenty you can do to help us out. Please contact us using the contact information below, and we can tell you about other volunteer opportunities.
