Who We AreGreat Lakes Weimaraner Rescue is an all-volunteer, nonprofit group whose primary mission is to help with the rescue & placement of Weims in the Great Lakes region; including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ontario.
Dogs that enter our rescue/recovery program are placed into our foster care network which provides a stable, loving family environment. Each dog's medical & emotional needs are provided for as they wait for their new "forever" home. We believe that every dog deserves a chance to enjoy a good life. We adhere to a "no-kill" philosophy.
GLWR was created in an effort to support and provide for the rescue, recovery, care, rehabilitation & re-homing of Weims in need across the Great Lakes region. No one individual is GLWR...we came together to form a collective & collaborative organization with our sole purpose being to assist Weims in need. We work with the various networks of shelters and containment facilities in several states as well as accept owner relinquishments. We exist solely on the generous donations of those who love these majestic "grey ghosts" as much as we do & the fund raising efforts of our very talented and energetic group. All funds received are used to support the vet care & other essential expenses necessary in the daily care of the dogs.
We believe in doing everything possible to help a dog make the transition to their forever home. We are here for the Weims & the Weims alone...our reward lies not in the accolades of being "rescuers" but in the gratitude we see in the bright, loving eyes of one of our Weims as they move onto their forever home... dogs that were once sad, dejected, & without hope that now have a chance to experience the love and warmth of a family that will truly love and care for them.
Adopting a friendTo adopt one of our Weims please contact our applications coordinator at applications@greatlakesweimrescue.com. She will send you an application and get you started with our adoption process. This process consists of a reference check, phone interview, and home visit. Once you are approved you can start meeting dogs!!
Our adoptions donations are as follows: Dogs under 1 year - $400, dogs 1-3 years - $350, dogs 3-6 years - $300, dogs 6 years and over - $250 **
** Special needs dogs and senior dogs may be considered for a reduced donation due to the nature of the medical condition and the age of the dog. **
Come Visit Us!Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue is not a shelter. We are a group of volunteers that live throughout the Great Lakes region. The Weims stay in foster homes until they are adopted. Weimaraners from shelters and owner surrenders across the Midwest.
Can you help save a Weimaraner in need?
Being a foster home for GLWR is
a wonderful opportunity to help give a rescued dog a second chance at a new
happy life. Rescue dogs are all ages- from puppy to senior- and from many
different backgrounds.
Our goal is to find a foster dog that fits into
your house-hold and lifestyle to provide the best experience for you, and
the dog.
You will have a great experience and wonderful feeling
when you see your foster home successfully find their new family, and know
that they are getting a second chance at life because of your efforts!
GLWR will cover all vetting
expenses for your foster dog; we simply ask that you provide food and a
safe, loving environment.
We can also loan a crate and other supplies for
house-training if needed.
With our yahoo group where foster homes and
adopters share stories and training advice, we will work together and
provide the support you need to successfully acclimate your foster dog into
your home, and eventually to their “fur-ever” family.
If you have been considering
fostering, now is the time!
The pet industry has suffered greatly with the
declining economy.
Many rescue groups and shelters have closed
their doors due to lack of donations and volunteer support this year.
We receive many requests to bring dogs into
rescue due to home foreclosures and lost jobs.
This is your chance to give back to a dog in
need!
We are currently looking for
foster homes in Michigan, Wisconsin, Northern Indiana, Northern Ohio, and
Northern Illinois.
