Maddie is a 7 1/2 year old, mini Australian Shepherd mix. She is a very sweet girl and loves playing with other dogs. Come by the shelter to meet her!

News

We are open Mondays through Fridays from 10 am to 4 pm and Saturdays from 9:30 am to 2 pm. We always need new volunteers to walk the dogs and play with the dogs and cats. A volunteer is required to go through a 20 minute volunteer orientation and sign the necessary paperwork. If under 16 years old, an adult must also be with the volunteer. We will begin new volunteer orientations on Wednesday, June 4th. Orientations will be given every Wednesday in June at 10am. Please call in advance, orientations are limited to 6 people. We also need volunteers who are able to assist at off-site adoption events. Read below for more information!

Events

September is $40 cat month! All of our cats and kittens will be available for just $40. We have so many adorable feline friends to choose from. Come adopt one today!

Who We Are

We are the city of Germantown's animal shelter and control agency. We strive to adopt dogs and cats to good homes. We also house dogs and cats that have strayed from their home until their owner picks them up. Unfortunately, we are not a no-kill facility. Euthanasia is used as a resource when an animal is deemed unadoptable. The reasons for this may include aggression or severe illness/injury. We also try to limit space-related euthanasia, but sometimes the shelter does become full. You can help limit space-related euthanasia by applying to become a foster parent.

Adopting a Friend

The adoption fee for dogs is $80. This includes vaccinations, heartworm testing, deworming, spay/neuter, microchipping and a rabies license for Shelby County. If a dog does have heartworms, the heartworm treatment will be paid by the city once the dog is adopted. The adoption fee for cats is $80. This includes vaccinations, feline AIDS and leukemia testing, deworming, spay/neuter, microchipping and a rabies license for Shelby County.

Come Visit Us!

We are located in Germantown, TN which is east of Memphis, TN. From Poplar Avenue, go south down Germantown Road. Turn left at Southern Avenue, which is just before the railroad tracks (Germantown Commissary Restaurant is on the other side of the railroad tracks). Proceed on Southern Avenue. Go straight past the stop sign and the shelter is on the left in the back of the Public Services Complex.

Are You Interested in Fostering?

The shelter is now looking for individuals interested in fostering. As part of a new initiative to reduce euthanasia, foster homes would be used to prevent the shelter from becoming full. Please give us a call for more information. We currently need individuals who are able to bottle-feed and wean kittens.

Donations

The shelter is always willing to accept monetary and in-kind donations. We'll also provide you with a receipt for tax purposes. The shelter is always in need of food, specifically Fromm adult dog food (Hollywood Feed) and Iams adult cat (orange bag) and Iams kitten (purple bag) available at all major retailers. For a list of needs, please contact us. We also have an Amazon Wish List available if you're interested in donating from far away! Visit our wishlist here: http://amzn.com/w/8JNOX4XB7ECE
