Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways you can volunteer at the Germantown Animal Shelter! Our volunteers help us socialize our animals by walking the dogs and playing with the cats. We also wouldn't be able to go to adoption events without our volunteers to help with transport and handling the animals. Volunteers must be 16 years of age and have attended a volunteer orientation to handle animals on their own. If you are under 16, a parent or guardian can volunteer with you as long as they have also attended an orientation. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, call the shelter at (901)757-7358 or send us an e-mail here.

If you are unable to volunteer, please consider donating! Both monetary and in-kind donations are accepted. The shelter is always in need of food, specifically Fromm adult dog food (Hollywood Feed) and Iams adult cat (orange bag) and Iams kitten (purple bag) available at all major retailers. For a list of needs, please contact us. We are able to provide you a receipt for tax purposes.

The shelter is now looking for individuals interested in fostering. As part of a new initiative to reduce euthanasia, foster homes would be used to prevent the shelter from becoming full. Please give us a call for more information.

Owner Surrenders

We can only accept animals from Germantown residents, space permitting, for a $50 surrender fee. Be aware that while we try to adopt out as many animals as we can - we are, in fact, a kill shelter. Some animals are simply too ill or aggressive to be adopted, and the only humane choice for the animal, and for the safety of staff and guests, is euthanasia.
