Ruff Report: Scarlett
With a deep gash in the middle of her forehead, Scarlett was turned into a veterinary hospital as a severly beaten up stray. The five pound poodle, resembling a chocolate and peanut butter cup, had to have stitches in order to close her wound. However, upon further examination, veterinarians had to shave more of her head and put even more stitches. She is currently being monitored at the hospital because of this and other injuries. This tiny teacup of a dog has a long and arduous road to recovery.
Mews News
Courage, a 3 month old kitten, was found wandering around in the middle of Ohio. Courage is on three different medications, as he is very ill. With good food and proper care, we hope that he is getting better by the day and be up for adoption soon.
Braveheart is a kitten who was found half-starved to death in a marina. Luckily, he was healthy and with delicious food in his belly, this little clown is growing strong enough to be fit for adoption.
Note: GAAR recently attempted to save a cat that had a firecracker taped to it's tail and ignited. Even with extensive veterinary care, the cat passed away the night it was received. Its tormentors were never found. Please report cases of animal cruelty to your local city/county animal control when an animal's health is jeopardized. Cases like this, are the reasons why GAAR asks for donations and support from the community in which we live. We rely on your contributions to treat more sick, injured, and abused animals. Thank you for supporting Guardian Angel Animal Rescue.

IntroductionGuardian Angel Animal Rescue is a registered Michigan 501(c)3 not-for-profit, no-kill rescue. GAAR is a foster group dedicated to saving, sheltering, and protecting animals from the streets, shelters, and dangerous situations. Guardian Angel Animal Rescue has no formal shelter; instead, volunteers take in surrendered, abandoned, and/or abused animals into their homes and care for them until a responsible, loving, and permanent home can be found. Needless to say, there are some instances when all foster homes are full, and the rescue pays for animals to be kenneled until there is an opening in a foster home.
Adoption Process and Policies
Please note that we do NOT do on-site adoptions at our adoption events.
Guardian Angel Animal Rescue (GAAR) utilizes an application process. We have worked hard at nurturing and understanding the animals in our care. In order to ensure that these formerly abandoned, neglected, and abused animals never find themselves in the shelter or rescue system again, we screen applicants to match an animal to suit the applicant's lifestyle. We have learned in rescue not every dog or cat is suited for every home. For example, some dogs/cats cannot go to a home with children. Others need to go to a highly active home. We can determine the best home by reviewing the answers provided in the application and then visiting your home. Our goal at GAAR is not to just find any home for a dog/cat but to find our furry friend's FOREVER home where it can live out the rest of its life. Applications can be emailed and/or faxed to you at any time if you are interested in adopting an animal.
Please be kind to our volunteers. Our volunteers are unpaid and all but a few work full time jobs and do their rescue work in their spare time (weeknights, weekends). This means that we cannot always respond to adoption requests or requests for assistance immediately. We do have a voicemail system that is monitored several times a day. The best way to reach a volunteer is by email.
Spay/Neuter!
It is our job at GAAR not only to find new homes for our animals but to ensure that these animals never have an opportunity to breed again. All of GAAR's pets will be spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. Exceptions are if the animal is not of age and/or the animal has a medical condition that would prohibit sterilization at the time of adoption. Animals under six months of age and animals that cannot be sterilized due to a medical condition will be adopted out on a spay/neuter contract which means the adopter must agree to have the animal sterilized by a specified date.
Adoption Fees
All age-appropriate vaccines; tests (heartworm, FELV, etc); spay/neuter (unless otherwise stated); and microchipping are included.
Sterilized Adult Cats: $125
Sterilized Adult Dogs: $175
Sterilized Small Breed Dogs: $225
Kittens*(under six months)/Unsterilized Adult Cats*: $200
Puppies*(under six months)/Unsterilized Adult Dogs*: $225
*Adopter will sign a spay/neuter contract.
VolunteerBecome a Guardian Angel Animal Rescue Volunteer! We need help in many different areas: Cat/Kitten Adoption Center, Foster Homes, Fund Raising, Adoption Days, Speakers, Transporting Animals and Supplies. If you are interested in volunteering your services, please contact us.
GAAR Cat and Kitten Volunteers!
We also need help at the Feline Adoption Center at the PetsMart in Commerce Township. They are located at 385 Haggerty Highway, just north of 14 Mile Road. Volunteers clean cages and play with these lovely furry felines in the evenings. Please email us or call (734)788-6857 if interested.
Is Fostering For You?
We would love to have enough foster homes that we would never need to use a kennel for temporary housing. Fostering a needy dog or cat takes some time, lots of love and some patience. Many of the animals are well adjusted and just need a warm home to rest their head and love and attention. Usually, a home can be found for a foster dog or cat within several weeks. Sometimes, there are those dogs and cats that have had a rougher life than others and will need a longer stay in a foster home until they are ready to go out in to the world again. In either case, aiding the transformation of a displaced animal into a secure, happy pet is worth the time spent. Guardian Angel Animal Rescue will cover all vet costs, food, etc. for your foster animal- we just need the use of your home, so please consider helping an animal in need today. You could be saving a life!!!
Puppy/Kitten Fosters Needed
We are in special need of people who would be willing to foster litters of pups and kittens from time to time. At times, the pups/kittens will need to be weaned by their mothers until of age. We are always in need of these special type of fosters!!
FundRaising
Guardian Angel Animal Rescue holds fundraisers throughout the year to generate funds and raise awareness of our rescue missions. Events include Texas Hold 'Em tournaments, Bowling Nights, Eat at Big Boy's Days, Dog Washes, and more. Any ideas and opportunities can be presented to us via email, guardian_angel_rescue@hotmail.com. Please contact us as well if you would like to participate in any of our events as a volunteer.
Adoption Days
We would love to have extra help to set up/take down cages, banners, and other materials before or after our showings. Set up and take down usually takes thirty minutes to one hour. They are also welcome to assist our foster parents during our showings.
SurrendersWe are unable to take owner surrenders at this time. We CAN assist you in placing your pet into a home if you are willing to keep them until we can one for them. We do this by posting your animal's information/picture on our website, screening potential adopters, and do all necessary paperwork. Most animals can find a new home anywhere from a few weeks to possibly a month or two, but we CAN find your animal a new home! We urge you to consider this before taking your pet to a humane society or animal control facility. Most people would be shocked to know that approx. 58% of dogs that enter a kill shelter are euthanized and approx. 71% of cats are euthanized.
Again, please be kind to our volunteers.
