Let’s Get Down to Business
Now that the Shelter is built and going strong we can begin to do the real work. Our most vital goal involves raising awareness about spay and neutering. We make sure that every animal that leaves our shelter is spayed or neutered. This very important step could not have been possible without the support and generous financial assistance of the Cities of Lead and Deadwood. Among our long-term goals, we hope to find a way to subsidize spay and neuter for caring pet owners that cannot afford to pay for this procedure themselves. We appreciate the help that we’ve received from concerned community members who find stray litters and bring them in so we can place these animals, spay or neuter them, and stop the cycle. The animals that we place have stories with happy endings. We shudder to think of the many other litters that we don't find.
We would also like to thank the DJ&T foundation for their generous support. With the assistance of the DJ&T foundation, we are finally able to say yes to the many people who ask us for help spaying and neutering their pets.
It's easy to build a shelter compared to the hard work we face now. But with great people like our friends who filled both of our buses, and the far-sighted civic leaders of Deadwood and Lead who have committed themselves to supporting a strong spay/neuter policy, we know we can do it!
Lead and Deadwood commit to a spay/neuter program!
We would like to thank the cities of Lead and Deadwood for allotting funds in support of our new spay/neuter policy. All animals placed out of the Twin City Animal Shelter receive complimentary spay/neuter. We hope that this will go a long way towards reducing the population of unwanted pets in our area.
Who We Are
The Twin City Animal Shelter moved into our brand new facility in the spring of 1999. In concert with the community, we have constructed a great new facility, nearly debt-free. Since opening, we have added a fenced play area for the dogs, an indoor-outdoor cat jungle, a washer/dryer, and many other improvements that make the lives of our animals more comfortable. We are very proud of our shelter, and hope you take a few minutes to stop by and have a look at it, and at the wonderful pets awaiting homes inside. Remember, we have had a 100% placement rate for almost three years now. Our shelter is a cheerful place where happy endings begin.
Adopting a Friend
We only ask that you fill out a simple adoption contract and pay a fee. Fees may vary on a sliding scale basis. All animals will be spayed or neutered, and vaccinated compliments of the Cities of Lead and Deadwood.
Volunteering and Donations
We would love to have your help at the Twin City Animal Shelter! More than anything else, these animals need friends. Can you spare a few minutes to pet and play with the animals? It's a fun outing with children, we get lots of excited children who visit. And it's a great way to show children how important it is to take responsibility for another. Outside of that, whatever you can spare will be appreciated... Foster families, food, blankets, toys, stuffed animals, help around the facility cleaning and feeding, and especially the cold hard stuff, cash. Call Gail, (605) 722-1268; or Teah (605) 722-3758 (evenings and weekends).
The Twin City Animal Shelter is committed to assisting the animals of the Lead-Deadwood community, and acting as a leader in illustrating the effectiveness of a vigorous spay/neuter program.
