Many people ask what they can donate to the shelter. Here is a list of needed and appreciated items: Blankets, towels, shoe boxes, disposable cat toys, dog toys, solid raw hide chews, canned dog and cat food, ink pens, pine sol, paper towels, Clorox, and clean carpet cut up into 12 " squares.

Potential adopters must live in Frederick, Warren, Shenandoah or Clarke County in Virginia or the City of Winchester if the animal has not been spayed or neutered. If the animal is already spayed or neutered adopters may live outside our jurisdiction. The shelter will not ship animals. Animals that are adopted from our shelter must be returned to our shelter in the event the owners can no longer keep the animal.
Who We Are
We are a government funded animal shelter designed to house the stray and unwanted animals of Frederick County. The shelter handles approximately 4000 animals per year. The building features adoption areas for both dogs and cats including two "cat livingrooms". Additional space is provided for stray animals, pregnant or nursing animals, and isolation. Shelter services include: accepting all animals from Frederick County residents, animal adoption, rabies clinics, trap rental, lost/found animal service, and humane education.

You must live in Winchester, Warren, Shenandoah, Frederick or Clarke Counties to adopt animal that are not currently neutered. All animals adopted must be neutered in accordance with the law.
