PLEASE NOTE: Regarding dog adoptions, FPP requires that adopters have a fenced yard.

Thank you for considering to adopt a dog from our shelter. PLEASE READ THE APPLICATION FORM CAREFULLY.  This on-line form is intended to assist you in selecting a pet that is suitable for you, your family, and your lifestyle.

The Friends of the Plymouth Pound have established guidelines and policies that must be met in order for your pre-screening application to be approved. The information you provide is essential to facilitate the application review process.

  • Understand that this is a pre-screening form. The Friends of the Plymouth Pound will contact you and approve you if, and only if, all requirements have been met.

Upon review of your pre-screening application, you will be contacted by the Friends of the Plymouth Pound to notify you if your application has been accepted and if further information is needed. Please note that we do contact all personal references and veterinarians, and we must speak with them personally. In addition, in some cases, a pre-adoption home visit may also be required. In the event that your pre-screening application has been not been approved, we will notify you of same.

THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE FRIENDS OF THE PLYMOUTH POUND RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DENY ANY PRE-APPLICATION BASED ON THE ORGANIZATION'S ESTABLISHED STANDARDS AND POLICIES, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, INCOMPLETE INFORMATION, NON-DISCLOSURE OR OMISSION OF PERTINENT FACTS, AND NON-COMPLIANCE WITH ACCEPTED STANDARDS.

We are an all-volunteer organization. Due to the high volume of applications, we ask that you be patient in waiting for a reply. Please do not submit duplicate applications or separate requests for response. Doing this will not accelerate the review process in any way.

Adoption Fees: Dog ~ $250    Cat ~ $150

Dear Friends:

WITH REGARD TO OUR ADOPTIONS

All of our cats receive significant viewing in our adoption center and on PetFinder.com, which sometimes results in many, many applications for an individual cat.

Each application is screened and checked thoroughly, on a first-come, first serve basis, and processed accordingly.

Applications are processed by our Board of Directors, which consists of long-time FPP volunteer members, who make the approval decision unanimously. We strive to place our cats and dogs in the most suitable and compatible homes possible, with the goal that it be each one’s FOREVER HOME.

Your patience and understanding in the application process is greatly appreciated.

Who We Are

The Friends of the Plymouth Pound was started in 1985 by a small group of concerned citizens assisting the animal control officer in the historic town of Plymouth, Massachusetts. Since its incorporation in 1989, the Friends of the Plymouth Pound and its volunteers have assisted thousands of local people and cats and dogs (both family pets and strays) by providing support through the group's various programs, which include low-cost spaying/neutering assistance, adoption and foster care, and educational outreach.

In addition to our Adoption Center facility in the Independence Mall in Kingston, MA (opened in November 2011), the Friends of the Plymouth Pound also have an active foster care program for homeless cats and dogs, providing loving "transition" homes for these animals while they await adoption. Volunteer "foster parents" generously use their own money to pay for food and litter for the foster animals, which is supplemented whenever possible by the Friends of the Plymouth Pound. In addition to supporting the group's spay/neuter program, a significant portion of the monetary donations received is used to provide the animals in foster care with veterinary services including examinations, inoculations, tests, surgery and prescription medications.

The Friends of the Plymouth Pound relies solely on donations from the general public, as well as the care and devotion of its dedicated volunteers. WE ARE AN ALL-VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION. If you would like to help the Friends of the Plymouth Pound, please contact  FPP by telephone at (508) 224-6651 or by e-mail at fpp@friendsplymouthpound.org.
