Featured Pet

Pepper is an 8 year old black Shepherd/Chow mix. She is a large dog (100 pounds), very gentle, quiet and affectionate! Pepper is the perfect companion; quiet, loving and loyal. She is spayed, current on shots, housetrained, micro-chipped and gets along well with other dogs & cats. She needs a home where she will be walked regularly and loved unconditionally. She sleeps all night long on the floor next to the bed and loves to get and give affection. She does well with people of all ages, but prefers the company of adults. Won't you take Pepper home today?

2009-06-21 Urgent Message Regarding Fostering

At this time, we do not have any For Pets' Sake volunteer foster homes. We do help Northwest Arkansas families place their pets up for adoption by posting their pets on our websites. Be aware that placing a pet sometimes takes weeks or even months. It has not been our experience that posting a pet on our websites results in immediate placement in a loving home. There are just too many pets in need of homes in our area. We appreciate that if you are having to put your pet up for adoption, you must be in between a rock and a hard place. However, so are we! We will continue to try to help families in need, but we are absolutely unable to take in any fosters at this time and we ask that you have realistic expectations when we post your pet on our websites for you.

2009-06-21 July FPS Meeting Scheduled

The July meeting will be held on July 16 at 6:00 PM at the Lowell Ramada Inn.

2009-06-21 FPS Teams up With Wal-Mart to Feed the Pets

FPS volunteer Alice Jensen talked with a Wal-Mart manager in the Charity Department and we are among other pet charities (Lone Pine Animal Rescue, Rogers Shelter, and FPS) who have 55 gallon Rubbermaid bins at Wal-Mart's Warehouse. When pet food trucks come in, the torn bags are given to these charities and when the bin is full Alice brings the bin back to FPS President Laurie Beckman. Laurie puts the dog food into 2 gallon ziplock bags and then other volunteers (Leslie Ray, Jamie Burris and Kimberly Owens) pick it up and deliver it to our regular Best Friends clients on an on-going basis. FPS volunteer Jamie Burris delivers hers to Hillcrest Tower in downtown Fayetteville where all of the residents are seniors on low income or disabled. This is a real win-win for FPS, Wal-Mart, and FPS's Best Friends Clients. For more on the Best Friends Program, see http://for-pets-sake.org/about.php.

2009-06-20 Bring Your Dog to Work Day at Tyson Foods Benefiting FPS

Tyson Foods is having a "Bring Your Dog to Work Day" on Friday June 26th from 4-6 pm. Tyson has bought a part of "Fresh Pet" refrigerated dog food. To celebrate this, Tyson is having this event and will split the proceeds between Springdale Shelter and FPS! We will have four of our foster dogs at the event and FPS volunteers will be there to hand out information and help get the dogs adopted. FPS should make a little money, hopefully get some new volunteers, and place some foster dogs in loving forever homes... what else can we ask for? Thanks Tyson Foods!

2009-06-20 FPS Goes to Woofie Walk!

FPS volunteers participated in Woofie Walk today at JB Hunt Park in Springdale. The public was encouraged to bring their pets on leash and pet organizations were there to see and be seen. We had a great opportunity to visit with the friendly folks from Big Wag Bakery, Aussie Mobile Groomers, Springdale Shelter staff and Scout Troop 192. We talked to visitors, played with our own pets and some orphan pets from the shelter. The shelter had at least one dog adopted today. FPS donated two of our Linda Picken art prints to the cause. We handed out brochures and business cards to some people hearing about us for the first time. Fun was had by all and we hope to see some new volunteers as a result of the contacts we made.

2009-04-29 Students Write Grant for FPS

FPS was the subject of a grant written by a team of students at Brigham Young University. They developed a grant request for a vehicle that FPS can use to haul dogs to pet events, Best Friends clients to vet or groomer, tent and tables, etc to outdoor events, etc. The grant was submitted to Rachel Ray's people at her new dog food line "Neutrish." All proceeds of her line of dog food go to animal charities. We were selected as one of just 8 from a list of 24 non-profits suggested for consideration by the Brigham Young students. We don't know yet if the grant will be approved, but we are very grateful to be chosen for the grant proposal.
