2011-05-11 FPS Receives Grants

FPS has received a grant from the Petco Foundation. Petco Foundation partners with over 6,500 non-profit animal welfare groups to provide the monetary, tangible and educational resources that will help them continue to make a difference in the lives of the companion animals in our nation. It is because of these hard working individuals that good animals are saved and adopted out every day, that people are educated, that disabled persons are placed with animals that can help them lead more normal lives, that over-population of unwanted pets is stemmed.

FPS is receiving a grant from The Chase Family Foundation, located in Springdale. The Chase Family Foundation is a benevolent group of like minded people improving the care and quality of life for humans and animals who are in trouble, pain, or just down on their luck through acts of kindness, generosity and monetary gifts. This foundation was formed to honor the memory of Mr. Rex Chase, and his wife, Mrs. Glada Chase.

Kathy Jaycox and Joy Drummonds were on hand at the Mental Health America of Northwest Arkansas Banquet and they presented FPS with a check for to be used for the FPS Pets for Vets Program. Thanks to FPS volunteer Catrina Horton for applying for and securing this grant! Veterans contact Catrina and then they find a dog at the shelter that will be a good companion dog for the person. FPS takes care of the fees for spay/neuter and vaccinations and the pet is delivered to the veteran at no cost to them. Just a big "Thank You" for their service.

Last, but not least, FPS received a check from Nestle Purina Petcare. Charitable grants are generally given to established pet-related organizations for fundraising or responsible pet ownership programs. Small grants may be requested for capital campaigns and education programs.

2010-03-11 FPS Begins Veteran Companion Animal Program

FPS is now developing a program to train service dogs as companion animals for veterans with stress or PTSD. Dogs will be selected for the population at the Fayetteville and Springdale animal shelters. Only dogs with the appropriate temperament will be selected. Then the dogs will be medically cleared and will receive obedience training and be house trained. Veterans may apply through the Veteran's Administration in Fayetteville and will be matched with a suitable dog for a companion.
