Our Kind News Adopt-A-Classroom campaign for the 2009-2010 school year has just begun. Last year we funded 205 classrooms and our goal for this campaign is 275 classrooms! The Kind News is our largest educational program and we are proud of being part of educating our youth in humane educational values. If you are not familiar with this great classroom newsletter, here are some facts about it: It is an award-winning classroom newspaper that teaches the importance of kindness towards other people and animals, putting basic values like compassion, responsibility and respect into practice. For only $30, a classroom receives 28 classroom copies from Sept. through May, and teachers also receive resources to reinforce lessons on responsible pet care, wildlife and environmental stewardship. For more information about the Adopt-A-Classroom campaign or to make a contribution call 270-783-9195 or 270-791-4583. Learn more about the KIND News at www.kindnews.org.
Our monthly volunteer meetings and educational presentations are held at the Alive Center, 1818 US Highway 31 W Bypass (across from Zaxby's). We meet usually on the first Monday of the month at 7 pm for the volunteer meeting and 7:30 for the educational presentation. The public is invited to attend both sessions. For more information and to verify the meeting date call Karen at 843-1558 or Danita at 563-4727.
Who We Are
A Voice For Animals (AVFA) is a Kentucky, nonprofit, 501 (c) (3) animal welfare organization. This organization was created by experienced, responsible pet owners and animal lovers who believe that rescuing, fostering, and adopting homeless animals is not enough. We must educate the community in responsible pet care, as well as, find forever homes for our rescues. Through humane educational programs, we hope to promote increased protection and quality of life for animals in South Central Kentucky.
The importance of spay/neuter cannot be stressed enough and our motto is "Spay Day, Everyday!." In addition to proper pet care and the importance of spay/neuter, we believe that education is key to dog bite prevention and preventing cruelty to animals and human violence.
We do not have a shelter facility and all animals rescued by our members are in foster care. For that reason, we are limited in the number of animals we can rescue to the number of available foster homes. While we are not rescuing, fostering and placing large numbers of animals in new homes, our adoption policy is designed to result in forever homes with the first placement. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to help with our mission, please mail it to 1765 Pleasant Hill Road, Bowling Green, KY 42103. Thank you!
Adopting a friend
We charge an adoption fee for all of our pets. We strongly believe that something free may not be valued highly. Our fees depend on the amount that we have invested in that animal. All pets are spay/neutered and brought current on shots before adoption. Cats are FIV and FEL-L tested and dogs are heartworm tested if they are old enough. Generally our fees range from $35 and up. We require an adoption application be completed with references, especially a vet reference. We also perform a home visit at the applicant's convenience. We try to find a good match for the pet and the applicant. Just providing shelter, food and water is not enough. We do not adopt any dogs to be yard alarms. We are looking for inside homes, primarily, for our rescues. We do not ship our pets by air.
Our Adoption Package includes a Petco Coupon Booklet and for Warren County, Canine adoptions, 1 FREE in-home consultation visit by Sandy Otto of Puppy Preschool. This free consultation is to help with the transitioning of your new dog into your home.
